(No Ratings Yet)

Baltic news, News from Latvia, BNN.LV, BNN-NEWS.COM, BNN-NEWS.RUThis Tuesday, October 4th, during the first meeting of the 12th Saeima, vote counters and the temporary Mandate, Ethics and Submissions Committee were approved. Members of this committee inspected election materials and complaints about elections.

The committee declined the request of opposition party Harmony to delay the approval of Unity representative Dzintars Zakis for three months in relation to the vote-buying scandal. The commission still has to prepare a report for the Saeima on the approval of chosen deputies’ authority.

Saeima deputy Juris Vilums read his solemn oath to serve the parliament and Latvia in Latgalian. The meeting was chaired by Solvita Aboltina. She asked Vilums to read the oath again, this time in Latvian. Viļums refused, so deputies voted only for the approval of 99 mandates.

In the 12th Saeima elections Harmony gained the most seats (24); followed by Unity (23), Union of Greens and Farmers (21) and National Alliance (17). Latvian Regional Alliance gained 8 seats in the parliament and To Latvia from the Heart gained 7.

Harmony’s elected representative in Riga election region include Jānis Urbanovičs, Andrejs Klementjevs, Boriss Cilevičs, Sergejs Mirskis, Ivans Klementjevs, Artūrs Rubiks, Sergejs Potapkins, Igors Pimenovs, Ņikita Ņikiforovs and Mihails Zemļinskis. Also, Harmony’s parliamentary team has been joined by sworn lawyer Jūlija Stepaņenko and representative of Zolitude 21.11 association Regīna Ločmele-Luņova.

Unity’s representatives in Riga include Edgars Rinkēvičs, Rihards Kozlovskis, Andrejs Judins, Ojārs Ēriks Kalniņš, Aleksejs Loskutovs, Ilze Viņķele and Lolita Čigāne.

Representatives of the Union of Greens and Farmers in Riga include Guntis Belēvičs, Māris Kučinskis, Kārlis Seržants. Previously, businessman Valdis Kalnozols had asked to recount votes at several election sites in order to make sure he had not been upstaged in terms of popularity by Māris Kučinskis. After the recount it turned out Kučinskis had indeed maintained his advantage over Kalnozols, as reported by CEC.

Representatives of the National Alliance in Riga include Dace Melbārde, Einārs Cilinskis, Dzintars Rasnačs, Ilmārs Latkovskis and Inguna Rībena.
