American businessmen that recently arrived in Latvia to meet with local businessmen and state officials are interested in developing the movie business and gaining access to the Russian railroad market through Latvia. So said Latvian honorary Councillor in Southern California Juris Bunkis and GATX Corporation Financial Director after the meeting with American Businessmen on Tuesday, July 3

Meanwhile, Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis projects that the results of this visit will be seen next month.

When asked whether it is possible to reveal what specific projects were discussed, the Prime Minister noted that discussions covered the possibility of investments from USA and new trade contacts and new projects, which can be carried out in different industries, but not all businessmen are ready to discuss that.

«In any case these impressions are positive. Businessmen are working very hard and create new contacts. I believe that there will be practical results of this visit,»- the Prime Minister says.

Bunkis, on the other hand, expressed hope that more movies could be shot in Latvia in the future.

GATX Corporation Financial Director admits that this has been a very interesting visit for his company and that he learned new information about railroad projects in Latvia. His company is also interested in Russia’s railroad market, which could be a new market for his company.

«We followed closely to the information about the new railroad projects because we, as the rolling stock providers, have an opportunity to partake in these projects. We are prepared to partake in projects of the Nordic network and standard track projects,»- he said.

The Prime Minister named the industries, which can be of particular interest to American businessmen: engineering, high technology, IT and film industry.

Bunkis noted that Latvia is a perfect investment country for American businessmen because there are smart people here, it is easy to start a business and Latvia has an advantageous tax policy. «I think Americans will be interested in coming here, knowing that they can produce products much cheaper than in USA or in the rest of Europe,»- the diplomat says.
