Burgas bomber - Swedish national?
The name of the suspected terrorist who blew up Israeli tour bus is Mehdi Ghezali – an Algerian-Swedish Islamist, according to Bulgarian media.
But Stockholm denies he was Swedish national, stressing that the national Security Service does not know such a name.
The bomber is also believed to have spent two years in Guantanamo Bay military prison, reports Ynet News.
However, Bulgarian officials claim that the suspected bomber’s true identity is not yet known. They say that the only thing that is clear is that the man had been in the country for four to seven days and was about 35 years old.
A fake American passport and other personal documents were found in his belongings. Also a US-registered driver’s license was retrieved, but US officials report that “there is no such person in their database.”
It should be added that the body of the man seen in the video sustained the most severe damage in the blast, leading investigators to believe he was the suicide bomber.
As reported, on July 18, a bomb explosion killed at least seven people on a bus carrying Israeli tourists near Burgas airport, Bulgaria.
The bus was carrying tourists from a charter flight that arrived from Israel. About 30 people were injured.
