Estonian Jewellers’ Exhibition «Field»; Gallery (AV17), Aušros vartų St. 17, Vilnius;

A jewellery exhibition «Field/Väli» by four Estonian artists Maarja Niinemägi, Kertu Tuberg, Linda al-Assi and Merle Kasonen encompasses the polysemantic word «field». Just as how the term «field» is used in physics to describe an active environment with which charged bodies affect one another, so do jewellers use this word to impart sense of influence of the major jewellery field to their freshest works. That is to say, jewellery pieces represent not only each artist’s individual style and tell personal stories but, because artists were inspired by people and movements that surround them, works also reveal the characteristic features of the contemporary Estonian jewellery. One of the most outstanding features of the Estonian jewellery school, that unfold its poeticism, is a sensitive usage of colour and conceptualism.

Majority of Lithuanian residents know who is a Caretaker. One of them treat him a symbol of the nation’s or the Lithuanians’ character; others consider it a small sculpture carved by a folk artist. The third ones would claim that he is a family intercessor, guardian, and still others think that is he a Pagan god. No doubt, among them there would be those who do not know anything about him. However, very few from us would be able to say where this image originates from, how, when and where it has formed, and what a figure of the sitting thoughtful man means in the Christian art, also how believers perceived him in the 16th -19th centuries.
