The Continious Looking-for Something by Edurne Aginaga

BNN offers you a selection of cultural events in Lithuania for the week between June 1 and 7.

June 1, 7pm:

Vilnius Festival; Vilnius concert halls;

The Vilnius Festival is wrapping up its concerts in one of the most prestigious, solid and versatile classical music events in Lithuania which is a major summer destination for music-lovers during the hottest tourist season. With primary interest in presenting classical music, performed by the established soloists, ensembles and symphony orchestras from all over the world, the Vilnius Festival promotes contemporary Lithuanian music by commissioning new large-scale works, and offers a platform for jazz and musical theatre.

June 1-7:

Exhibition «(De)Construct», (AV17) Gallery, Vilnius

The exhibition «(De)Construct»  by artists Edurne Aginaga and Pietro Catarinella showcase part of UK artists’ works in the contemporary photography and its ability to construct and deconstruct realities. While Aginaga creates imaginary worlds by using photography to capture and frame a specifically constructed situation, Catarinella uses his photographic work to explore the nature of the photographic image in the digital age.

June 1-7:

«The Dialogues of the Creator of Medals»; National Museum of Lithuania, Vilnius

The exhibition features the works of professor Petras Gintalas from the Vilnius Academy of Arts.The first idea, conveyed by a pencil on a sheet of paper, is represented by the sketches of medals and coins, while plasticine and gypsum models convey the further stages of creativity and the final result we see embedded in medals and plaques. The painter paints, creates coins and metal-works and the areas of Telšiai town are decorated by his works, but one of the main genres in the works of Petras Gintalas is a portrait.

June 4, 6.30 pm:

«Romeo and Juliet», Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, Vilnius

Oskaras Koršunovas, the director of the theatre, says that Shakespeare’s «Romeo and Juliet» is usually understood as a celebration of romantic love. «It is, really, an instance of social drama. In dramatic circumstances, an ordinary love becomes invested with tragic power of the highest order. What interests me most in this tragedy is how love can come forward and thrive in an atmosphere of hatred or war, as in Verona,» says the creator.

June 5, 8pm

Concert by Nightmares on Wax; Arts Factory «Loftas», Vilnius

The project Nightmares on Wax, which has become a synonym of downtempo, triphop and chillout sound, encompasses 7 albums. They all are released by one of the leading independent British electronic record labels Warp Records.

June 6, 5pm

Classic’s legends: 20th Pažaislis Music Festival, Kaunas State Philharmony;

The most distinguished works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Johanna Doderer and Johannes Brahms will be played by known and aspiring Lithuanian musicians and their foreign counterparts.

June 7, 7pm

Summer Festival of Kairėnai: Sipriai kitaip; Vilnius University’s Botanical Garden;

Legendary band Stipriai kitaip («In a strong way, otherwise») is going to give an exceptional evening in Kairėnai summer festival. Three artists – Ainis Storpirštis, Vidas Bareikis and Pranas Dapšauskas – are going to step on the stage of the second festival at Kairėnai VU Botanical garden and together with their fans they are going to sing the songs, which have already become cult songs. Shortly after having formed in 2008 as an acoustic project of singing actors, the band became the most popular group in singing poetry genre.
