BNN offers you a selection of cultural events in Lithuania for the week during November 16 to November 22.

November 16-22:

Exhibition «50 years for Lithuania’s Bodybuilding»; Lithuanian Museum of Sports; Muziejaus g. 7; Kaunas;

The white-and-black pictures have captured the most joyful and stressful moments on and off the stage of various bodybuilding competitions. As Kaunas bodybuilding school has always been known for the achievements in body sculpting, the exhibition epitomizes what entire Lithuanian bodybuilding has best;

November 16-22:

Exhibition of photographer Algimantas Kunčius; National Gallery of Art, Konstitucijos g. 22, Vilnius;

In the recent decades, Kunčius works are included into all albums of the Lithuanian photography. In more than 50 years of active creative work, seven albums of photography were released, and a number of exhibitions were organized. In 1998, the photographer was awarded National culture and art award. In the grand exposition hall of National Arts Gallery, more than 500 creations – photographs and films created between 1962 and 2015 are exhibited.

November 16-18, 7pm

International Accordion Festival; Vilnius concert halls, Vilnius;

International Accordion Festival wraps up multiple appearances by the best accordionists from Germany, Finland, Poland, China, Japan, Norway, Spain, Russia, the U.S., Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Belarus, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Great Britain and Italy, who came to share their competence with the Lithuanian audience.

November 18, 7pm

Trip in Jazz Rhythm; New York Club, Kalvarijų g. 85, Vilnius;

Healing, and probably magic music is presented to the Lithuanian art lovers by impressive band of known Lithuanian jazz performers «Jazz Brothers». Music reminding fusion style – it is the main style of the quintet

«Jazz Brothers» that does not leave the audience indifferent.

November 19-21:

Vilnius Music Week; various Vilnius venues;

Vilnius Music Week is said to be a unique event that will merge national and regional musical life as well as interests and goals into one massive event. Vilnius Music week is for everyone – music lovers, professionals, fans, and those who seek valuable and perspective cooperation. Despite The audience being diverse there will be uniformity in that all patrons will have a spectacular and unforgettable time.

November 20-22:

The International Jazz Festival «Vilnius Mama Jazz»; Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, Gedimino g. 4, Vilnius;

The colourful jazz festival boasts a variety of jazz styles, and has been held in the capital since 2002. The musical line-ups have encompassed everything from all star projects, contemporary post-bop, live sound for silent cinema, to arrangements of Led Zeppelin songs. All events of the festival «Vilnius Mama Jazz» that will be held in the foyer of the Lithuanian national Drama Theatre are free of charge.

November 16-22:

Vilnius in Photos of Juozapas Čechavičius; National Museum of Lithuania, Arsenalo g. 1, Vilnius;

Photos of Vilnius are the most abundant and most known creative heritage of the photographer. J. Čechavičius compiled to albums panoramic views of Vilnius, photos of churches, streets, and squares and varied them with landscapes. Photos of albums are often compiles freely, not paying attention to their creation time. In the exhibition, originals of J. Čechavičius photos are exhibited; their digital copies and documents from the Lithuanian National museum are kept in the photographer file. The file is made of 327 original photos and more than 150 glass negatives.

November 16-22:

Polish Art at Late 19th Century-early 20th Century; Didžioji g. 4, Vilnius;

The Vilnius Art Gallery showcases an exhibition from the National Museum in Krakow. The exhibition will present works of art by O. Boznańsko, J. Fałato, A. Gierymski, J. Mehoffer, F. Ruszczyc, J. Stanisławski, W. Weiss, and a number of other famous painters representing art of the «Young Poland» period. Over 150 examples of painting, graphics, sculpture and applied art are displayed. All exhibition halls in Vilnius, like in the exhibition in Krakow, are devoted to specific topics – especially important in the art of the «Young Poland». The exhibition is supplemented by poster facsimiles of the Young Poland.

November 16-22:

Shot: Decade of Research of Yahad- in Unum; Tolerance Centre, Naugarduko g. 10/2, Vilnius;

In the Tolerance Centre of the Vilna Gaon Jewish State museum (VVGŽM), mobile exhibition Shot: decade of research of Yahad – In Unum prepared by the organisation Yahad – In Unum (France) is presented. Materials of the historical research based on evidence of the contemporaries, photos and maps is presented in the exhibition; also little scrutinised Holocaust theme Holocaust by shooting is presented.

November 16-22:

10th International «Kaunas biennale -United»; Kaunas Central Post Office, Laisvės g. 102, Kaunas;

This year’s largest contemporary art project «Kaunas bienalė» takes place in Kaunas, the second-largest Lithuanian city. Over 80 artists from over 30 countries represent their works encompassing the spirits of Vilnius, Paris, Rio and New York.

November 16-22:

Three centuries of fashion; museum of Applied Art, Arsenalo g. 3A, Vilnius;

The Lithuanian Art Museum opens an exhibition showing 100 best evening dresses from Alexander Vasiljev collection. According to Alexander Vasilijev, «What there may be more romantic and what should be craved more than an invitation to a ball? Here merges music and dance, aroma of fragrances and sparkles in the eyes, swish of taffeta and flickering of glitter, tulle mist and sophisticated lace design. During the last century, hundreds of designers and tailors tried to satisfy the taste of the most demanding customers by creating this unique clothing of high fashion – an evening dress that has always charmed and will charm the viewer – this is a true embodiment and symbol of woman’s happiness.»

November 16-22:

Aleksandras Ilginis’ exhibition «Natiurmortai»; Klaipėda Ieva Simonaitytė Public Library, J. Janonio g. 9, Klaipėda;

The best still-life paintings by artist Aleksandras Ilginis are on;

November 20, 7pm

Beethoven’s Effect; St. Catherine‘s Church, Vilniaus g. 30, Vilnius;

Very few who may come up to L. van Beethoven, therefore, it is not an easy task to perform his works subject to frequent mystifications. However, St. Christopher chamber orchestra is not afraid of challenges and is prepared not to disappoint you: together with the pianist Darius Mažintas and conductor Modestas Barkauskas he promises especially interesting interpretations of this Vienna classic.

November 20-22:

The Baltic Food and Beverage Fair; Exhibition and Convention Centre «Litexpo», Laisvės g. 5, Vilnius;

Baltic Food and Beverage Exhibition is a yearly celebration of food culture and a business event fostering the idea of food and nutrition philosophy. Clear theme of the Fair – everything in the exhibition is dedicated to presentation of food products, beverages, coffee, tea, spices, culinary novelties and tricks, traditional and contemporary cuisine, healthy eating propagation, higher quality of consumption. Internationality, foreign companies account for over 20 percent of all exhibitors.

November 21, noon

Uptown Market; Radio Lofts, Kauno g. 28, Vilnius;
