BNN offers you a selection of cultural events in Lithuania for the week between February 13 and February 19.

February 13-19:

Coffee Culture Week (Kavos kultūros savaitė);   Shopping and Leisure Centre «Panorama» (Prekybos ir pramogų centras «Panorama») (www.panorama.lt/en), Saltoniškių g. 9, Vilnius;

Coffee Culture Week is an event for people interested in coffee drinking culture. Organised by professionals, it also targets the Baltic coffee market: coffee roasters, distributors, suppliers, producers and tasters.  The event invites all to the coffee preparation festival, competition of drawing by the milk foam and a lot more.

February 13-19:

Exhibition «Omano lobiai» (Paroda «Omano lobiai»); Vilnius Town Hall (Vilniaus Rotušė)  (www.vilniausrotuse.lt/en), Didžioji g. 31, Vilnius;

The photo exhibition of famous Omani photographers opened in the town hall of Vilnius reveals Oman’s culture, traditions and present-time images.

February 14, 6. 30 pm:

The story of Romeo and Juliet can speak to a rebellious teenager, a tired advertising agency employee, a teacher seeking new interpretations, a student browsing for new iPad applications and a mother bringing up three children. «I want to speak to ordinary people struggling with their everyday problems,» says choreographer Krzysztof Pastor.

February 14, 7 pm:

Concert «Fall in Love» (Koncertas «Įsimylėk»); «Žalgiris» Arena (www.zalgirioarena.lt/en), Karaliaus Mindaugo pr. 50, Kaunas;

For the tenth time, during Valentine’s Day, Curia of Kaunas Archdiocese organizes an event called «Valentine’s Day differently.» This event was born as an initiative to celebrate this day talking about love as self-giving, faith- filled and about love that lasts forever.

February 14, 6 pm:

Comedy «Amnesia for 400,000 euros» (Komedija «Amnezija už 400,000 eurų»); the Grand Hall of Vytautas Magnus University (Vytauto Didžiojo Universiteto Didžioji Salė), S. Daukanto g. 28, Kaunas;

If laughter is magic, then the cure to your stressed-out soul and body will come in Kaunas from the hilarious comedy with some brightest actors in the line-up.

February 14, 8 pm:

Kastytis Kerbedis’ Concert «My Voice» (Kastyčio Kerbedžio koncertas «Mano balsas»); «Švyturys» arena (www.svyturioarena.lt/events-en), Dubysos g. 10, Klaipėda;

In what is expected to be the brightest kick-off of the 2017 event season in Klaipėda’s main event venue, legendary Kastytis Kerbedis promises to fascinate all the onlookers with a great programme and an incredible display of high-tech light and sound effects.

Where if not in the romantic dusk of a cinema hall you may be so close to your beloved person, and when the screen is shining, you may silently confess love or repeat to the one sitting next to you what you feel? On February 14, known internationally as the Valentine Day, the cinema theatre invites to fiesta of love and amusement.

February 15, 7 pm:

One of the most sought-after artists of Lithuanian pop stage look eagerly forward to throwing out a memorable concert for St Valentine’s Day in Kaunas;

February 16, 10 am- 8 pm:

Commemoration of the Restoration of Lithuania’s Statehood «Yellow.Green. Red» (Lietuvos valstybės nepriklausomybės paskelbimo minėjimas); various Vilnius venues;

For the second year in a row, Vilnius city offers its dwellers and city guests many various activities and events bringing up civil consciousness on the occasion. Three lines of the city map made of colours of the State flag shall invite all to participate in various educational events, concerts, meetings with inspiring Lithuanian people, creators, thematic excursions, trips and many other activities.

February 16, 7.18 pm:

Ceremony of the Trumpeter of Independence (Nepriklausomybės Trimitininko Ceremonija); Cathedral Square, Vilnius;

With a year left until the 100th anniversary of the declaration of Lithuanian independence, Vilnius is set to launch a daily commemorative ceremony from February 16 until February 16 of next year. This daily musical ceremony will serve to prepare residents of Vilnius for the 100th anniversary of the reestablishment of the Lithuanian state and will also inform the city’s guests of the forthcoming milestone anniversary. The time chosen for the daily ceremony – 19:18 – is meant to signify the year of the reestablishment of the Lithuanian statehood: 1918.

February 16, 7 pm:

Andrius Mamontovas’ Concert «We Are Your Children» (Andriaus Mamontovo koncertas «Mes esame tavo vaikai»); «Švyturys» arena (www.svyturioarena.lt/events-en), Dubysos g. 10, Klaipėda;

Without an exaggeration, Andrius Mamontovas is Lithuania’s top artist and social influencer and, no doubt, his single solo performance in the Klaipėda arena will be a memorable experience for all.

February 18, 2 pm:

Children performance «Little Red Riding Hood» (Spektaklis vaikams «Raudonkepuraitė»); Vilnius Puppet Theatre «Lėlė» (Vilniaus Lėlių Teatras) (www.teatraslele.lt/en), Arklių g. 5, Vilnius;

The fairytale about the Little Red Riding Hood was created by the famous French writer Charles Perrault (1628-1703). Everyone knows that the big bad wolf devours the little girl and her grandmother, and that the story has a happy ending regardless. And what if the children do not want the wolf to be so cruel and eat the protagonists of the tale? The performers Elvyra Piškinaitė and Juozas Marcinkevičius have tried to act out a different story about the girl and the wolf.

Level of prices of agricultural products in Latvia grew 11.6% in 2017

The total price index of agricultural output in 2017 had increased by 11.6 %, which was mainly due to the rise in prices of livestock products of 25.8 %. The price index of crop products grew by 2.2 %.

So-called green thinking also affects Latvian residents’ habits. 53% of Latvian residents prefer goods and services that help protect the environment, according to results of a study performed by AS Latvijas Zaļais punkts.

World Press Freedom index ranks Estonia highest among Baltic states

The French-based organisation Reporters Without Borders has published its 2018 World Press Freedom index, where Estonia has been ranked 12th and Latvia has been moved up by four positions to the 24th place.
