BNN offers you a selection of cultural events in Lithuania for the week during March 29 and April 3.

March 3- April 1:

Photo exhibition «Fragmentai. Kelionė į save» («Fragments. Trip to yourself»), Kauno menininkų namai, V. Putvinskio g. 56, Kaunas;

As a traveller, Gintaras Jaronis has spent quite some time in France, where he was charmed by the country’s small towns and their architectural authenticity. Keen on innovative ways of photographing, the artist has taken a series of photos using the spectrum of infrared light…

March 30, 7 pm:

Performance «Arabian Night» («Arabiška naktis»), Arts Printing House (http://www.menuspaustuve.lt/en/), Šiltadaržio g. 6, Vilnius;

«Arabian Night» tells a magical tale about five individuals whose lives and dreams, realities and fantasies happen to cross on one enchanted summer’s evening… «Arabian Night» premiered in 2003 was instantly recognized by critics and audiences alike, guaranteeing the national award Golden Stage Cross for the best debut of the year.

March 30, 6 pm:

Performance «Hamletas» («Hamlet»), Nacionalinis Kauno Dramos teatras,Kaunas;

The play has rarely been off the stage throughout the 400 years since it was written and its stage history is accordingly extensive. A group of Kaunas Drama Theatre actors have mastered their roles and drawn praise both from the critics and theatre goers…

March 31, 6 pm:

Performance- Exhibition «Anglija» («England»), Pranas Domšaitis Gallery (http://www.ldm.lt/en/pdg/), Liepų g. 33, Klaipėda;

British playwright Tim Crouch’s play «Anglija» presents a unique form of theatrical acting, known as «site-specific», i.e. in each case the performance is played paying attention to local characteristics. No wonder that the play varies beyond recognition from one place to another. Lithuanian actors have found their way of the presentation…

March 31- April 3:

Vilnius International Film Festival «Kino Pavasaris» («Cinema Spring»), Vilnius cinema theatres

Vilnius International Film Festival «Kino Pavasaris» is unquestionably one of the most anticipated annual cultural events in Lithuania. The largest cinematic event in the country invites to cinema-related events, workshops, and special initiatives. The festival will present more than 200 films divided into a range of categories, from Masters and Critic’s Choice to documentaries, to featurettes and other forms.

April 1, 7 pm:

Festival of Orchestras of The Baltic States, Congress Hall (http://www.lvso.lt/en), Vilniaus g. 6/16, Vilnius;

The festival will last for three evenings.  In the first concert, the pianist Kalle Randalu shall perform. The pianist was born in Tallinn and graduated from Moscow conservatory. He has won awards in such competitions as the 7th P. Tchaikovsky Competition of pianists, the 8th R. Schumann competition of pianists and ARD pianist competition in Munich.

April 1, 7 pm:

Black humour show «Sex tabu be/Ne tabu» («Sex without taboo/ Not taboo»), Concert Hall «Renginių Oazė» , Baltų pr. 16, Kaunas;

The new concert venue in Kaunas has already claimed the reputation of a concert hall with great sound and lighting equipment and with an easily transformed stage. The 800-spectator venue invites now to explode from laughter in the black humour show, presented by famous Lithuanian comedians…

April 1, 7 pm:

Presentation of «Bix» Band’s new album «Bix ray», «Vakaris» Club, Naujojo Sodo g. 1, Klaipėda;

Legendary Lithuanian band «Bix» present its newest album. The vivacious, effervescent rockers have again remained devoted to their authenticity and genuineness. To put it in the words of the band leader Saulius Urbonavičius-Samas: «If you don’t have to say anything, do not smear the TV screen…»

March 29- April 3:

Exhibition «Reality of Imagination» by Pranas Domšaitis.

Art Museum of Vytautas Kasiulis (http://www.ldm.lt/en/), A. Goštauto g. 1, Vilnius;

The exhibition presents oil paintings, aquarelles, pastels from the presented to Lithuania collection of Domšaitis from the Fund of Lithuanians (USA) and kept in the Lithuanian Arts Museum. The exhibited paintings reflect long creative way of the artist – from early creations to the last compositions. The selected landscapes of the European countries and South Africa, portraits, still life, figure compositions and painting with Bible motives are presented.

Producer price level in industry up 0.4% in Latvia

Compared to April, the level of producer prices in Latvian industry grew by 0.4 % in May 2017. The prices of products sold on the domestic market increased by 0.3 %, whereas the prices of exported products grew by 0.5 %. The prices of products exported to euro area countries grew by 0.8 % and of products exported to non-euro area countries – by 0.4 %.

Alleged bomber shot in Brussels central station

In the central station of Brussels, Belgium, soldiers have shot a man suspected he was to detonate explosives, local authorities have stated. The man was shot and later died after reportedly setting off a small explosion on Tuesday, June 20, and no-one else is believed to have been injured.

Expert: pension capital grows, but the Latvia still has a ways to go

«Latvia’s pension system has been named one of the best in the world multiple times. Pension capital in it has grown rapidly over the years. The volume of savings gathered on the 2nd level pension system by the end of Q1 2017 came close to EUR 3 billion. The volume saved on the 3rd level pension system was close to EUR 4 billion,» explains Nordea Pensions Latvia board member Ilja Arefjevs.
