BNN offers you a selection of cultural events in Lithuania for the week during March 13- March 19.

March 13-19:

Exhibition «Incoming Telegram (Stop)-19900311» (Paroda «Ateinanti telegrama (Stop) 19900311)»; Energy and Technology Museum (Energetikos ir Technologijų Muziejus) (www.etm.lt/en) , Rinktinės g. 2, Vilnius;

March 11, 1990, marking the restoration of Lithuania’s Independence, has been a key date in the state’s history. That day people from  all over rushed to send their greetings via letters, postcards and telegrams to Vytautas Landsbergis, the-then chairman of the Lithuanian Supreme Council, a man who has steered Lithuania to the restoration of statehood. Many of the congratulatory telegrams are put on display in the exhibition.

March 13-18:

Festival «Young Theatre Days» (Festivalis «Jauno Teatro Dienos»), Klaipėdos Kultūros Fabrikas (www.kulturosfabrikas.lt/en), Bangų g. 5A, Klaipėda;

Over a hundred of theatre creators from all over Lithuania and Poland will descend on the stage exhibiting a variety of solo performances, miniatures and other theatrical staging.

March 13-19:

Ceramic Art Exhibition «Collection of The Most Beautiful Not Lost Finds» by Beatričė Kelerienė (Keramikos paroda «Gražiausių nepamestų radinių kolekcija») ; Darijaus Gallery (Darijaus Galerija)  (www.darijaus.com/?lang=en), Dominikonų g. 7/20, Vilnius;

Since 2003, Beatričė Kelerienė has been a regular in most outstanding expos and ceramic festivals in «Ceratopia» in Tokyo, in Tanabe, Kyoto, also in Japan, «Chasabal» in Mungyeong, South Korea and elsewhere. Her works were awarded by Tokyo Governors’ prize in 2014 and honoured in the most prestigious ceramic show in Mino, Japan. Now it’s the turn of Lithuanian art lovers to see her first ever personal exhibition in Lithuania.

March 13-19:

Exhibition «Different Wars» (Paroda «Skirtingi Karai»); Vilnius Town Hall (Vilniaus Rotušė) (www.vilniausrotuse.lt/en), Didžioji g. 31, Vilnius;

The English version of the Exhibition «Different Wars: National School Textbooks on World War II»

reveals the differences in the narration and perception of the history of the Second World War in modern high school textbooks of the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Russia. The exhibition has been a success in Prague, Strasbourg, Milano, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and St. Petersburg.

March 14, 6 pm:

Humour Show «Kultas» (Humoro šou «Kultas»), Klaipėda Concert Hall (Klaipėdos Koncertų Salė), Šaulių g. 36, Klaipėda;

Mantas Stonkus, an aspiring and inspiring actor and TV host, lifts humour genre to the new heights, with the show set to unleash the onlookers’ uninhibited desires…

March 14, 6 pm:

Music Festival «Spring Meetings» (Muzikos Festivalis «Pavasario Susitikimai»), Kaunas State Philharmonic (Kauno Valstybinė Filharmonija), E. Ožeškienės g. 12, Kaunas;

Music by XX Century Music Greats, Edvard Grieg and Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, will be played.

March 15, 6 pm:

Musical «Addams Family» (Miuziklas «Adamsų Šeimynėlė»), Kaunas Music Drama Theatre (Kauno Muzikinis Dramos Teatras), Laisvės al. 71, Kaunas;

The Addams are a close-knit extended family with macabre interests and supernatural abilities. No explanation for their powers is explicitly given in the series. The very wealthy, endlessly enthusiastic Gomez Addams (John Astin) is madly in love with his refined wife, Morticia, née Frump (Carolyn Jones)…Much of the humour derives from their culture clash with the rest of the world…

March 15, 7 pm:

Concert «Come Toegther» (Koncertas «Ateik kartu») by Ian Maksin and Vilnius Guitar; St. Catherine‘s Church (Šventos Kotrynos bažnyčia), Vilniaus g. 30, Vilnius;

A famous American cello virtuoso and composer, Ian Maksin, who is about to throw out his unforgettable concert in Lithuania,  has performed in prestigious American, European and Asian concert halls, in some of them  together with music stars such as Andrea Bocelli, Sting, Gloria Estefan and Barry Gibb. This time, he will perform with a recognised ensemble of guitar virtuosos, the Vilnius Guitar Trio. Compositions by J.S. Bach, A. Piazzolla, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, A. Vivaldi, Chick Corea, B. Goodman, The Eagles, D. Ellington, I. Maksin, Sting will be played.

March 16, 10 am:

Exhibition «Home World» (Paroda «Namų Pasaulis»); «Žalgiris» arena (www.zalgirisarena.lt/en), Kaunas;

Are you interested in furnishings and décor? Then this largest exhibition of the kind is certainly for you as dozens of furniture makers and décor manufacturers are expected to present their production.

March 17, 6 pm:

Performance «Žalgirės» (Spektaklis «Žalgirės»), Kaunas Music Drama Theatre (Kauno Muzikinis Dramos Teatras), Laisvės al. 71, Kaunas;

A funny comedy by the inspiring screen writer, Vidas Bareikis, portrays a squad of women hoopsters, who, in the daily life, are like apples and oranges, but, on the court, go fiercely after the hankering to secure a slot in the amateur basketball Olympics in Alaska…

March 17-18:

Fashion Festival «Mados Infekcija» (Mados festivalis «Mados Infekcija»); Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) (Šiuolaikinis Meno centras) (www.cac.lt/en), Vokiečių g. 2, Vilnius;

«Mados Infekcija» has it all what a top-notch fashion show requires: catwalk shows, exhibitions, seminars, show-rooms and free events for fashion devotees. Bohemian spirit, extraordinary and unconventional fashion shows, the fuse of music, video, photography and other fields of art make the festival a unique two-day experience of fashion.

March 18, noon:

Concert «Symphonic Strangers» (Koncertas «Simfoniniai Keistuoliai»); Congress Hall (Kongresų rūmai)  (www.lvso.lt/en), Vilniaus g. 6/16, Vilnius;

Along with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the theatre «Keistuolių teatras» will certainly get the hall packed with symphonic music lovers.

March 18, noon- 9 pm:

Spring Equinox (Pavasario Lygiadienis); Gediminas Hill Base (Gedimino kalno papėdė), Vilnius;

Spring equinox is mystical time when a day equals a night. The Vilnius Ethnic Culture Centre invites all Vilnius dwellers to set the Earth and people in Šventaragio Valley in motion. This year, the holiday shall connect the main holidays of the springtime – Equinox, 40th Birds’ holiday, Easter and St. George’s Day.

Instant payment infrastructure comes online in Europe

Police dismantle criminal group that caused damage worth seven million euros to the state

Latvian State Revenue Service’s Finance Police dismantled a criminal group in November 2017. A total of 34 searches were performed and two people were found suspect. The criminal group performed tax avoidance and money laundering operations, causing damages worth nearly seven million euros to the state, BNN was informed by SRS.

Zariņš: deputies who vote for the state budget without amendments will have breached their vows

It is unacceptable for the Saeima coalition to follow the Cabinet of Ministers and like the Cabinet of Ministers breach laws during the budget approval process, says Saeima member Ivars Zariņš, adding that deputies who vote for the budget without amendments will thereby have to breach the vow they had previously made to the Latvian nation.
