BNN offers you a selection of cultural and sports events in Lithuania for the week during November 7-13.

November 7-11:

Contemporary Music Festival «Gaida» (Šiuolaikinės muzikos festivalis «Gaida»); Vilnius concert halls;

The festival is the most prominent festival of contemporary music in Lithuania. This is one of the most important new musical events in Central and Eastern Europe. The festival’s aim is to present the most interesting Lithuanian and world music oeuvre, to initiate new projects including top international musicians and to keep the highest quality criteria as the priority.

November 7-13:

European Film Forum «Scanorama» (Europos kino forumas «Scanorama»); cinema theatres in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Šiauliai;

European Film Forum «Scanorama» is wrapping up eventful two weeks in four largest cities of Lithuania (Vilnius, Kaunas, Šiauliai, and Klaipėda). Being one of the most distinctive cultural events of the autumn season in Lithuania and the second largest film festival in the country, «Scanorama» is especially keen to preserve and foster its origins and its relation to the countries of Northern Europe.

November 8, 7 pm:

Erica Jennings Concert; «Žalgiris» Arena (www.zalgirioarena.lt/en), Karaliaus Mindaugo 50, Kaunas;

With many years on the stage spent, it is the first time however when Erica Jennings, of Colombian descent and the finalist of this year’s Eurovision Lithuania Contest, will sing solo. Her sweet and distinguished voice just does not leave anyone nonchalant…

November 9, 6 pm:

Concert «Reflections. Well Tempered Clavier» (Koncertas «Atspindžiai. Gero būdo klaviatūra»); The Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania (www.valdovurumai.lt/en), Katedros 3, Vilnius;

A clavier-player, organ player, pianist and pedagogue music Giedrė Lukšaitė-Mrázková in 1986 became a 3rd prize laureate of the 1st M.K. Čiurlionis competition of pianists and organ players. She was awarded a 5th-class order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas for merits to the culture of Lithuania.

November 10-11, 6 pm:

Lithuanian- Japanese Charity Concert (Lietuvos-Japonijos labdaros koncertas); Lithuanian National Drama Theatre (www.teatras.lt), Gedimino 4, Vilnius;

The proceeds from the concert will go for children with oncologic illnesses in Lithuania and tsunami victims in Japan. Japanese performers who have come to Lithuania at their own expense for already fifteen years in a row invite one to join the charity campaign. The charity starts on November 10 with a concert of two Japanese choirs «Chiyoda» and «Green Harmony» and three Lithuanian choirs «Libro», «Ave Vita», and «Ugnelė.»

November 11, 3 pm, and November 12, 7 pm:

International Indian Classical Art Festival  «Sursadhana» (Tarptautinis Indijos klasikinio meno festivalis); Lithuanian Russian Drama Theatre (www.facebook.com/FestivalSursadhana), J. Basanavičiaus 13, Vilnius;

«SurSadhana» is the only, already traditional festival in Lithuania which introduces Indian classical arts. The audience will be introduced not only the most famous classical dance and music masters from India but also performers from Lithuania and other neighbouring European countries already for the eighth time..

November 12, noon:

Folklore Song and Dance Festival «Klumpakojis» (Tautinių dainų ir šokio festivalis «Klumpakojis»); Žvejų rūmai (www.zvejurumai.lt/en), Taikos 70, Klaipėda;

The best folk art song choirs and dance troupes will flock onto the floor of one of the oldest event venues in the Lithuanian seaport and cheer up the spectators with the energising rhythms of traditional Lithuanian songs and dances. Over 20 ensembles are expected to show up.

November 12, 7 pm:

Concert to Mark the 400th Death Anniversary of Writer Miguel De Cervantes (Koncertas paminėti keturišimtąsias rašytojo Migelio De Servanteso metines); Lithuanian National Philharmonic (www.filharmonija.lt/en), Aušros Vartų 5, Vilnius;

The performers include Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, soloists Maxim Rysanov (viola), Kristina Blaumane (cello), conductor Modestas Pitrėnas; in the programme: Richard Strauss – Symphonic poem Don Quixote for viola, cello and orchestra, Liudwig Van Beethoven – Symphony No. 7;

Don Quixote, a literary character who has become a symbol of a fighter, has stirred the interest of many an artist of various epochs. It is very likely, that Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra had not imagined that his creation would become an object of such fascination…

November 12, 2 pm:

Comedy «At the door of heaven» (Komedija «Prie dangaus vartų»); Girstučio Rūmai (Palace) (www.girstutis.lt/en), Kovo 11-osios 26, Kaunas;

Laughing is the best psychotherapy, so if you want it, then seeing the comedy is a must;

November 13, 3 pm:

«Sunday in Havana» (Sekmadienis Havanoje); Art Hub «Largo» (www.largo.lt), Savanorių 64, Kaunas;

Live Cuban music, Spanish language learning tips, Salsa classes and a great selection of Cuban cocktails. This is what the event offers.

In spite of opposition from businessmen, government supports railway electrification project
