BNN offers you a selection of cultural and sports events in Lithuania for the week between July 25 and July 31.

July 25 and 29, 7 pm:

Festival «Užutrakio vakarai» («Užutrakio evenings»); various venues in Trakai;

The international festival will take place in the hundred-year-old Užutrakio estate surrounded by Galvės lake with the castle located in the middle.

«Remembering Yehudi Menuhin» with Algirdas Šochas (violin), Ieva Sruogytė (viola), Raphael Unger (cello, France), Ugnius Pauliukonis (piano) will be shown on July 25 and the programme includes works of W. A. Mozart, G. Fauré, R. Shchedrin, G. Enescu and R. Schumann.

«Užutrakis Intermezzo» with Indrė Anankaitė-Kalašnikovienė  (soprano), Nijolė Baranauskaitė (piano), Irma Belickaitė (violin) will be performed on July 29. The programme:  works of J. Brahms, J. Massenet, F. Windhorn, V. Ganelin, A. Kačanauskas and others.

July 25-31:

Exhibition «Jewish paper cuttings»; Library of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (www.vgtu.lt/biblioteka), Saulėtekio al. 14, Vilnius;

The exibition of Klaidas Navickas is introducing Jewish culture in Lithuania, Jewish feasts. Klaidas Navickas is a folk artist and a craftsman of paper cuttings. Paper cutting master Klaidas Navickas was studying Jewish culture in Lithuanian and other countries.

July 26, 7 pm:

Sacred Music Hours by Alexander Gorin; St. Casimir’s Church (www.kazimiero.lt), Didžioji g. 34, Vilnius;

Alexander Gorin, an organist who has performed at the world’s most famous churches, cathedrals and concert halls, will now be playing in Lithuania. He is the standard when it comes to masterfullness, he is entrusted to play the premieres of today’s most renowned composers’ works, and his concert tours span China, South Korea and Scandinavia where he appears with the world’s best orchestras, conducted by maestros such as Zubinas Mehta.  Programme: J. S. Bach, F. Mendelssohn;

July 27, 8.30 pm:

Midsummer Vilnius: Opera under the Stars; Courtyard of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania (www.valdovurumai.lt/en), Katedros a. 3, Vilnius;

The festival invites ones to enjoy the most beautiful opera arias under the starry sky. The Lithuanian chamber orchestra is managed by one of the most famous and professional conductors, Modestas Pitrėnas. Tenor Merūnas Vitulskis, who became famous after the TV project Way to the Stars, shall perform arias from the most famous operas. M. Vitulskis has already performed important roles in France, Lille opera. Presently, the singer performs in Austria where in Giacomo Puccini opera Madam Butterfly he performs the party of B. F. Pinkerton.

July 28, noon:

Vilniur Burger Fest; Courtyard of the Museum of Teatre (www.ltmkm.lt/en), Music and Cinema, Vilniaus g. 41, Vilnius;

Several years ago the virus of a gourmand burger reached Vilnius and changed its cooking face. The number of places in Vilnius where a burger is served to an extent, where Vilnius Burger Fest has become a logic ending. The Fest will present the visitors a feast of perfect food, music and friendship.

July 29, 3 pm:

Etnographic gathering: Traditional Lithuanian Bread; Culinary Studio, Baker street, Mindaugo g. 27-240, Vilnius;

Lectures about the real, traditional Lithuanian bread are held in the Culinary Studio «Baker Street – Vilnius», during which  one will learn about the history of Lithuanian bread, sourdough bread baking technology and a lot more. A traditional wheat bread Ragaišis will be baked from Lithuanian wholegrain wheat flour during the lecture and traditional Lithuanian products will be also presented and tasted at the lecture, including Lithuanian rye bread, buttermilk honey, hemp butter and acorn coffee.

July 29, 7 pm:

Galvė Jazz Fiesta, Trakai;

The old capital of Lithuania, Trakai, is often recognized not only by the old castles of the city, the ones that witness a history of the country. But since 2008 Trakai is well known also because of «Galvė Jazz Fiesta». It is the only one project in Lithuania where you can enjoy Jazz performed by local and foreign jazz music celebrities while on a boat.  The July 29 event «Tribute To Chet Baker» will feature Silvija Pankūnaitė (vocal),Vytautas Skudas (trumpet, flugelhorn), Paulius Zdanavičius (keyboard), Eugenijus Kanevičius (contrabass), and Linas Būda (percussion).

July 29-31:

The Sea Festival and Baltic Sail; port of Klaipėda;

The Sea Festival, whilst different every year, yet loyal to its original traditions since its inception, has become a crucial part of Klaipėda‘s image. During the eight decades of its existence, the festival has not lost its originality or appeal, it did not become obsolete or boring to neither the community nor the guests who arrive in Klaipėda just for the festival.

July 30, 9 pm:

Concert in C; St. Catherine‘s Church, Vilniaus g. 30, Vilnius;

A piano recital by pianist Daumantas Kirilauskas, whose name has become synonymous with the highest artistic quality. Not just for his expert handling of this instrument, but also for the utmost respect he shows to music itself. In Daumantas’ performance you will see no fake effects, but enchants audiences with conceptual programmes, extraordinarily stylish and tasteful interpretations. The programme includes J. S. Bach’s Partita No. 2 and L. van Beethoven’s Variations in A on the Diabelli theme, op. 120.

July 30, 9 pm:

Cinema under the stars; courtyard of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania (www.valdovurumai.lt/en), Katedros a. 3, Vilnius;

Films under the open sky have made a tremendous step and moved to a new, filled with history, location in the yard of the Palace of the Great Dukes of Lithuania. A special program has been prepared for the seventh season. It includes amazing summer premieres, admirable film classics, kingly film shows and, of course, the most beloved films. July 30 features film «Las ovejas no pierden el tren.»

July 30-31:

Pažaislis Music Festival; Pažaislis Monastery Complex, Kaunas region;

The 20th Pažaislis Music Festival is alll about creating new traditions.  This year the festival will held 40 concerts where we will have an opportunity to hear the most prominent Lithuanian and foreign musicians, will celebrate 250 year Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis and 140 year Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis birth anniversaries, as well as birth anniversaries of two Lithuanian tenors  – Virgilijus Noreika and Edgaras Montvidas. As every year, new concert venues will be introduced: Jonava Joninės Valley, Kelmė Evangelical Reformed Church and Pasvalys St. John the Baptist’s Church.

July 31, 7 pm:

Festival «Vivace Vilnius», opening concert; Vilnius Town Hall (www.vilniausrotuse.lt/en), Didžioji g. 31, Vilnius;

Opening Concert by Roberto Plano − piano (Italy), music by Berio, Brahms, Cimarosa, Debussy, Ginastera, Liszt, Luchesi, Say, ir Villa – Lobos.

This year Vivace Vilnius festival celebrates its 5th birthday, inviting the faculty from Europe and USA: violinist Lynn Chang (USA), cellist Aristides Rivas (Venezuela/USA), flutist Ona Jonaityte (Lithuania/USA), and pianist Roberto Plano (Italy). Master Classes for violin, cello, flute, piano, and chamber music will take place at National M. K. Čiurlionis Art School (T. Kosciuškos 11, Vilnius).

Average consumer price level in Latvia up 1.2%

This year marked a surge in corporate lending in Latvia
