BNN offers you a selection of cultural events in Lithuania for the week during February 15 and 21.

February 15, 7pm:

For Your and Our Freedom, Bar «Piano Man Bar» (www.facebook.com/PianoManBar), Islandijos g. 1, Vilnius;

Beer, Polish sauerkraut stew, good music and perfect, multicultural and multilingual company – this is what will mark the celebration of Lithuanian’s proclamation of Independence Day in the bar. Polish Discussion club and cultic Vilnius bar Piano Man will host famous Vilnius performers – Rob B Colton, Aleksandras Belkinas, Ištvan Kvik and others will perform in the concert.

February 15, 10 pm:

«Rondo» Concert, Port Bar (https://www.facebook.com/PORTbyBarBara), Naujoji Uosto g. 11, Klaipėda;

If you asked a Lithuanian, who is in his or her forties, what «Rondo» is, you will definitely get an excited answer: «A legendary band from the early 1990s that still ignites flame in the hearts of hundreds of band fans.» This is the definition that precisely suits the band.

February 16:

Lithuanian Independence Day, various Vilnius venues;

On February 16, 1918, the Council of Lithuania signed the Act of Independence of Lithuania, which declared Lithuania an independent state.

Programme:

11 am- 6pm: Festive Vilnius citizens and city guests are invited to enjoy entertaining, educational, cultural routes of self-dependence of the State Yellow (www.ooosome.lt/geltonazaliaraudona).

Noon: Flag-raising ceremony of the flags of three Baltic States at Simonas Daukantas square, Vilnius. The speech of the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė;

2 pm: Celebration of 16 February near Signatory’s House (Signatarų namai) in Vilnius;

6 pm- 10 pm: Gediminas Avenue – 16 symbolic bonfires (from the Cathedral to Vincas Kudirka square in Vilnius);

8.30 pm- 10 pm: 16 February concert to celebrate freedom at Vilnius Cathedral Square. The president of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and Vilnius City Mayor Remigijus Šimašius invites one to celebrate freedom;

February 17, 6 pm:

Cinema session of Spanish films 15 Years and One Day, Beepart Club (www.beepart.lt), Smalinės ir Vydūno g., Vilnius;

In cooperation with the Spanish embassy in Vilnius, Beepart Club presents Cinema Sessions of Spanish Movies once a month. The first film to be shown is «15 Years and One Day», a 2013 Spanish drama film directed by Gracia Querejeta. The film was selected as the Spanish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards.

February 18, 6.30 pm:

Alexander’s Feast, Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre (www.opera.lt), A. Vienuolio g. 1, Vilnius;

Alexander’s Feast is one of the most popular works by George Frederic Handel that was very well received by the public already after its premiere at the Opera of Covent Garden (London) in 1736.

February 18, 6 pm:

Italian Lyrics, Kaunas State Philharmonics (www.kaunofilharmonija.lt), L. Sapiegos g. 5, Kaunas;

The evening of Italian classic music will start off with the melodies by camera orchestra «Modus». The soloists include Joana Gedmintaitė (Lithuania), Donato Ravini (Italy), Gaetano Donizetti (Italy) and others.

February 19, 9.30 pm:

Band Bix Show, Music Club «Tamsta» (www.tamstaclub.lt), Subačiaus g. 11A, Vilnius;

Legendary Lithuanian band, for more than half a year, has been preparing its new album. Bix will perform the best hits of all times and present the audience unheard songs from their new album.

February 20, 8 pm:

Band «Naktinės personos» («Night Personas»), Night Club «Gargaras» (https://lt-lt.facebook.com/GargarasLoft), Raudondvario plentas 101, Kaunas;

A new project combing the best music and special effects will definitely get the crowd swaying to the rhythms by legendary Lithuanian band «Naktinės personos»;

February 20, noon:

Featurette Film Project «Užmesk Akį» 01 («Cast an Eye»), Cinema Theatre «Romuva», Laisvės alėja 54, Kaunas;

All cinema goers are invited to see the best featurette films created by Lithuanian and foreign filmmakers;

February 20, 6 pm:

Rock opera «Jūratė ir Kastytis», Žvejų rūmai, Taikos pr. 70, Klaipėda.

Legendary rock opera is revived by a number of Lithuanian theatre and music stars, including Vaidas Baumila, Aistė Smilgevičiūtė, Povilas Meškėla, Evelina Sašenko and others.

On 17 June, Latvia’s airBaltic airline received its ninth Bombardier CS300 aircraft. The airline plans to expand its existing aircraft fleet with 14 CS300 aircraft before the end of the year.

Employment agency invites employers to apply for new job support programme

Employers will be able to apply for participation in a programme of the European Social Fund to help create subsidized jobs for unemployed people. Eighteen offices of Latvia’s State Employment Agency will be offering registration until 27 June.

Programme: government continues working on MPC plan’s cancellation

The disproportionate mandatory procurement component costs have become one of the biggest political scandals in Latvia since autumn last year. Attempts to put an end to the MPC system are continuing alongside the search of those responsible for the dysfunctional system.
