BNN offers you a selection of cultural events in Lithuania for the week during May 9 and May 15.

May 9-15:

International Contemporary Dance Festival «New Baltic Dance» («Naujas Baltijos šokis»); various Vilnius venues;

For the second consecutive week «New Baltic Dance» continues to invite all to swing by numerous festival venues and enjoy the rhythms of dance and the tunes of music. During 20 years of its existence, the festival has grown up into one of the main and most prestigious dance festivals in the Baltic Sea area. Programme of the festival organized by Lithuanian Dance Information Centre and «Vilnius Festivals» consists both of well established companies with famous productions and new young companies/choreographers with experimental works.

May 9-15:

Exhibition «Accelerating Science»; National Centre of Physical and Technological Sciences, Saulėtekio al. 3, Vilnius;

Probably, you have heard something about Higgs boson, the Big Bang theory, and large accelerator of hadrons collider. However, do we really know what it is? The exhibition  at the National Centre of Physical and technological science (NFTMC), organised by Vilnius University’s  (VU) European particles physics laboratory (CERN), is meant for everybody who is interested in origins of the Universe, origin of particles, power and potential of fundamental science.

May 9-14:

Viktorija Damarell’s and Ona Juciūtė’s Exhibition «Waves» («Bangos»); Jonas Mekas Visual Art Center (, Malūnų g. 8, Vilnius;

Jonas Mekas Visual Arts Center presents «waves», an exhibition by Viktorija Damerell and Ona Juciūtė, consisting of sculpture, drawings, sound and staircase installations.

May 9-15:

Theatre Debut Festival of Young Creators «Silence!» («Tylos!»); various Vilnius venues;

Vilnius’ Little Theatre together with Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy is introducing to the audience the sixth international theatre debut festival «Silence!» By introducing the festival, the organizers and participants want to loudly proclaim: «Silence, please! The young creators of the theatre are coming».

May 9-15:

Exhibition «Pamario implikacijos» («Seaside implications») (; Klaipėda Public Library, Juliaus Janonio g. 9. Klaipėda;

Painter Tadas Dromantas shows in his works what the Lithuanian coast is famous for: lush nature, serene piers, picturesque nature and pensive locals…

May 12, 6.30 pm:

Tango Show «Dos Por Cuatro»; Vilnius Puppet Theatre «Lėlė» (, Arklių g. 5, Vilnius;

The expressive Vilnius tango theatre which last autumn surprised the Lithuanian and later Argentinean audience by impressive show Lunfardo returns from tango homeland with the gust of fresh and refreshing wind and presents the second premiere of this season – tango show Dos Pow Cuatro. It is a metaphor hiding inside the rhythm of tango, multi-layer and expression that surpasses time.

May 13, 1.30 pm:

Open Kitchen Vilnius; Tymas’ Quarter, Open air at Maironio, Aukštaičių ir Paupio g. Sankirta, Vilnius;

Open Kitchen is a food market in the heart of the city with different restaurants, cafes and entertainment under the open sky in the market of Tymas. Each summer Friday in Tymas market there will be already well-known and new restaurants and cafes of the capital, independent kitchen chefs and culinary experiments.

May 13, noon:

Fashion Bazaar; «Žalgiris» Arena, Karaliaus Mindaugo pr. 50, Kaunas;

The long anticipated fashion market invites everyone to stop by the largest Lithuanian sport arena. The designers will introduce their new collections mottled with eye-catchy accessories and jewellery. A separate section shall be devoted for children fashion and home interior. Entry is free.

May 13, 2 pm:

Kaunas Cantat Choir Festival; Didžioji Aula of Kaunas Vytautas Magnus University, Gimnazijos g. 7, Kaunas;

More than 20 choirs will compete for the title of the very best among the best choirs;

May 13, 6 pm:

Concert «80 žiedų» («80 blooms»); Kaunas State Philharmonic (, L. Sapiegos g., 5, Kaunas;

The legendary Kaunas choir «Gintaras» is celebrating its 80th anniversary and inviting everyone to the jubilant concert «80 blooms.»

May 13, 6 pm:

Musical «Aida»; Kaunas State Music Theatre; Laisvės Alėja 91, Kaunas;

A two-part musical accompanied with the rhythms of Elton John’s music and Tim Rice’s verses has conquered the stages of 18 countries and now Kaunas is the next…

May 14, noon:

Street Dance Show «Rise up 2016»; Vilnius Palace of Culture, Entertainment and Sport, Žirmūnų g. 1E, Vilnius; This time it will be the seventh «Rise Up» and it will be held on May 14. It‘s street dance show and «All styles» battle competitions, where beginners and advanced dancers compete in different categories.

May 14, 6.30 pm:

Opera «Fidelio»; Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, A. Vienuolio g. 1, Vilnius;

Ludwig van Beethoven; an opera in 4 acts; music director and conductor Martynas Staškus, director Oskaras Koršunovas, set designer Gintaras Makarevičius, costume designer Sandra Straukaitė, chorus master Česlovas Radžiūnas.

The entire storyline of «Fidelio» can be condensed into these three words- marriage, prison, freedom.

The current production of Beethoven’s opera «Fidelio» is a co-production between the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Bergen National Opera (the Norwegian premiere of this work was presented in November 2013).

May 14, 11 am:

Dance Workshop «Salsation» with Sheldon Christian; (LT) Šokių studija «Soul Lounge», Gedimino pr. 2, Vilnius;

Full of charisma and joy of life master trainer from Curacao is coming back to Vilnius again to give his first workshop and master class full of Latin America power, passion and music. Salsation is a dance workout that converts functional training protocols into innovating dance moves.

The difference between other workout programs is that Salsation is carefully design to integrate functional body movements into all the dance routines working out in a 3D fashion using all planes of motion.

May 14, 8 am:

100-km Endurance Walk along the Baltic coastline (, Klaipėda;

It is the second endurance walking event along the Lithuanian coastline, organised by TrenkTuras;

May 15:

International Poetry Festival «Poetry Spring»; various venues in Vilnius and Kaunas;

«Poetry Spring» is an international poetry festival, taking place annually, organized by Lithuanian writers’ union and Writers’ club. In various spaces the poets of the country and foreign guests, actors read poems as well as discussions and communication with the audience take place.

Output of livestock products in Latvia increased in 2017

Compared to 2016, output of meat grew by 4.6 % and output of milk by 1.4 % in 2017. In 2017, in Latvia 91.2 thousand tonnes of meat were produced, which is 4.0 thousand tonnes or 4.6 % more than in 2016. The most significant increase was observed in the output of poultry (of 11.3 %) and pork (4.7 %).
