BNN offers you a selection of cultural and sports events in Lithuania for the week during October 11 and October 16.

October 11-16:

International Vilnius Theatre Festival « Sirenos 2016» (Vilniaus teatro festivalis « Sirenos 2016»), various Vilnius venues;

Making the news. This his is the slogan of the 13th Vilnius International Theatre Festival «Sirenos.»

The organisers say that everyone who will come to this year’s performances will be pushed into a continuous flow of news. Why? To make us look inside ourselves for we are the ones who produce the « now» and the « here», and all things hurtful, scary or making us anxious or happy…

October 11-16:

Polish Film Festival (Lenkijos filmų festivalis); cinema theatres in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Mažeikiai and Šalčininkai (www.kinopasaka.lt/en);

As many as 26 films will be shown in Lithuania’s five cities during the event, with the tribute being paid to the legendary Polish screenwriter Krzysztof Kieslowski.

October 13- 16:

International Festival «Vilnius Jazz» (Festivalis «Vilniaus džiazas»); Lithuanian Russian Drama Theatre (www.rusudrama.lt), J. Basanavičiaus St. 13, Vilnius;

Founded in 1987, «Vilnius Jazz» is the oldest annual jazz festival held in Vilnius. It is an exceptional event in Lithuania that provides a broad perspective on contemporary trends in jazz from all over the world. The festival aims to attract an audience of around 5000 visitors.

October 13-16:

Latin American Days «In Latino» (Lotynų Amerikos dienos «In Latino»); various Vilnius venues;

A festival of Latin American culture will invite one for dinners, meetings, cinema screenings, street art and musical performances. The brightest accent of this year‘s festival is the life, works and emphasized femininity of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, who will perform in  Vilnius’ Žemaitė square (Gediminas Ave. 29)  on October 13.

October 13- 16:

Documentary Film Festival «Inconvenient Films» (Dokumentinių filmų festivalis «Nepatogus kinas»); Vilnius cinema theatres;

«Inconvenient Films» invites filmmakers, experts, activists and festival audience to appreciate and discuss the role of documentaries in reflecting and shaping our understanding of reality. The mission of this festival is to use award winning author driven films in raising awareness about human rights issues around the world, encouraging public debate on ways to address them.

October 14, 7 pm:

Ruta Ščiogolevaitė Concert; Renginių Oazė Hall (www.renginiuoaze.lt), Baltų Ave. 16, Kaunas;

The 800-seat new hall in Kaunas is expected to be rocking during the single concert given by one of the brightest divas of Lithuanian pop music, Rūta Ščiogolevaitė;

October 15, 7 pm:

Donatas Montvydas Concert; «Žalgiris» Arena (www.zalgirioarena.lt/en), Karaliaus Mindaugo St. 50, Kaunas;

One of the top-tier Lithuanian music stars, Donatas Montvydas, is set to make the crowd in the largest Kaunas hall sway to the tunes of the best songs from the Lithuanian celebrity’s repertoire;

October 15, 11 am:

Golden Ring Making Day (Auksinių žiedų liejimo parodojamoji diena); Kultūros Fabrikas (www.kulturosfabrikas.lt/en), Bangų St. 5A, Klaipėda;

How to make a wedding band out of scrap gold? How the wedding band on your index finger can be remade and look better? The best goldsmiths from all over Lithuania will spill some of their secrets to the visitors;

October 16, noon:

Performance «Grybų karas ir taika» (Spektaklis «War and peace of mushrooms»); Kaunas State Musical Theatre (www.muzikinisteatras.lt), Laisvės Ave. 91, Kaunas;

The performance devoted for children and their parents will have one bursting into laughter. This is what the organisers say;

October 16, 6 pm:

Concert «My favourite things» (Koncertas «Mano mėgstamiausi daiktai») by Andreij Pushkarev; Vaidila Theather (www.jaksto9.lt), A. Jakšto St. 9, Vilnius;

The instrument that Andrei Pushkarev enjoys playing with most is vibraphone. In his hand, the instrument is «capable of transporting listeners to a world filled with new thrilling sounds and colours». He received his first award in 1995 at the New Names of Ukraine Competition and joined Kremerata Baltica, the chamber orchestra led by a world-renowned violinist Gidon Kremer.
