G4S: illegal employment flourishes in security business
As in all sectors with the bulk of costs for workforce, illegal employment hits high also in security business, says Edgars Zalitis, AS G4S Board Chairman.

Riga City Council’s budget revenues climb nearly 15% within half-year
The total Riga Municipality’s budget revenues grew almost 15% in the first half of 2011. Overall, the Municipality’s revenues comprise 236.8 million lats – 30.7 million (14.9%) lats more than scheduled in the budget for this period.
Olainfarm sales climb 27%
The medicinal and chemical-pharmaceutical product manufacturer AS Olainfarm’s provisional June 2011 performance indicates sales have surged 27%, compared to the same period last year, totaling 3.15 million lasts (4.48 million euro), according to the company.

Asked who is managing the building they live in, 77.5% of the respondents say it is the building management or management companies, while 13.6% point out it is the residents themselves who do it.
25 000 citizens unable to vote in referendum due to invalid passport
Due to an invalid passport, nearly 25 000 of Latvia citizens will be denied participation in the referendum on the Saeima dissolution next week, according to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) statistics collected from the Population Register.
Tele2 network stops working for several hours
The mobile, landline and data communications operator Tele2 network has stopped working for several hours and this problem is observed throughout the whole Latvia.
Latvia reports second lowest birth rate since 1998
Last year reported the second lowest birth rate since 1998 – 19.2 thousand (18.4 thousand in 1998). This happens at a time when death rates are still exceeding births and the net migration is negative. Consequently, it causes unfavourable trends in the age structure of population, with the residents' aging continuing in Latvia, similarly as in Europe.
More than half shop at low-cost stores and during campaigns
The majority of the residents in Latvia are keen to make use of various ways to save up money, for example, they shop at low-cost stores, follow all discount campaigns and opt for the cheapest goods. Similalry, they also make effort to plan their daily expenses.

Seven Estonian cyclists who were kidnapped in March in Lebanon have finally been set free, according to the Estonian Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Karlis Serzants wrote Berzins’ first official speech
The newly-elected President of Latvia Andris Berzins’ first speech was written by his recent Saeima faction colleague Karlis Serzants. The Saeima deputy and journalist himself does not deny participation in this process, however, emphasizing he was only lending a helpful hand.
