To strengthen Latvian-Kazakh relations, break stereotypes and shed more light on the ninth largest country in the world, AS Ventspils Grain Terminal (VGT) is organizing a drawing contest “Dedication to Kazakhstan”.

VGT Chairman Vladislavs Safranskis points out that over the past twenty years Latvia and Kazakhstan have grown apart both economically and politically. This has given rise to a number of misconceptions. For some Kazakhstan is still a country where people ride camels and live in yurts.

He stresses that over these years Kazakhstan has made a gigantic “tiger leap” in development. It is setting an excellent example for European countries in terms of economic, cultural and religious life.

“The economic crisis did not hit Kazakhstan. The country is developing in all sectors. It did not make Latvia’s mistake of mad property buying.”

The goal of the contest is to encourage Ventspils residents and people throughout Latvia to look deeper into today’s Kazakhstan. Examples of modern Kazakhstan can be found on the Internet. The paintings show the country from a wide range of viewpoints.

“We are really interested in what Latvians think today’s Kazakhstan looks like,” says Safranskis.

Organizers invite all amateur artists to take part and submit their work in Ventspils Secondary School No 6, Room 120, until June 25. All of the winners will receive valuable prizes.
