Maira Narvila, Riga City District Court judge, has refused Transport Ministry’s request to forbid Bertolt Flick, airBaltic CEO and President, operating with the airline’s shares.

“The ruling can be appealed against in ten days time,” Janis Jaksons, the court spokesman, told the news agency LETA.

News portal BNN already reported, Dzideta Innusa, deputy state secretary at the Transport Ministry said: “There are tense discussions in regard to the gap in airBaltic capital payment.”

According to her, the ministry had turned to the Land Register, asking for information. They had also asked the court to forbid operations with these shares not to worsen the situation in the airline even more.

Portal Ir.lv reports that the Transport Ministry has another option to get what it wants – via criminal action if such is brought against Flick by the General Prosecutor’s Office. What is said to complicate the situation even more is the fact that the Genral Prosecutor is currently on a vacation.

As reported, Land Register has currently suspended the process linked to airBaltic council selling shares of nearly 60 000 lats and collecting 10 million euro for that. The government of Latvia believes the move is a bid to boost influence and get hold of the controlling share.

“Therefore, law enforcement authorities should review the case as soon as possible,” said Uldis Augulis, Transport Minister.

BNN already reported, according to Transport Ministry, the state of Latvia is the majority sharehodler in airBaltic.

Latvian national airline needs 10 million lats to ensure its operations in short-term, Ivars Prieditis, President of Latvijas Krajbanka, the airline’s creditor, told before the closed session of the Cabinet of Ministers on September 13.
