What do you expect? A small group of people has been privileged with a legal monopoly on transport services. Bad service, high costs, even higher prices and an addiction to subsidies are certain consequences. Any easy solution? Unfortunately not. Most cities around the world are as bad, if not worse, than Riga. A partial solution, perhaps, would be free competition for mini-buses. This would lead to a good alternative and force RS to improve. To make my point clear; Riga has a free taxi market. Next time you go out with friends it may be cheaper to share a taxi than taking the bus...
