Debt recovery service charge - not more than 12 lats
(No Ratings Yet)Debt collectors are not allowed to visit people at the weekends and in week days after 9 PM. The government has supported the new law, which governs the extrajudicial debt recovery. The Ministry of Economy intends to tackle aggressive debt collection with the help of the new law. The law still has to be revised in the Saeima.
The enterprises of the sector will have to get a license for what a state duty of 1000 lats will have to be paid. To avoid situations where for a relatively small debt much bigger debt-service charge is applied, it is announced that the companies must not charge more than 12 lats for its services.
It will only be possible to visit a debtor at work after his or her consent. But the visits on weekends and during 21 PM to 8 AM will be forbidden altogether.
The enterprises currently operating in the sector have raised their objections against the bill. They consider 12 lats as an inadequate sum of money and suggest developing of a flexible system of payments. They are also against the prolongation of the debt recovery process.
