Estonia - the little tech giant
Although Estonia is one of the smallest countries in Europe, it has become the tech giant that the EU seeks to generate growth.
The country has one of the world’s most advanced e-governments, in addition to an e-health and cybersecurity system that many countries envy, reports the portal New Europe.
Estonia is often asked how come it has developed in this technological giant. The answer is simple – twenty years ago, when the country broke free from the USSR, it decided to invest in information technology.
In addition, it has three things in its favour: political leadership, the success of Skype and its culture. Besides, the country’s president, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, always keeps on his desk iMac, MacBook Air and iPad2.
It is also added that since 1991 Estonia has carried out computerization that helps citizens do their taxes quickly and easy.
The country has also introduced i-voting and an option to sign documents using an electronic signature, the portal points out.

(+1 of 1)

The country has clearly used the last 20+years to advance. Just a pity that the neighbouring LV stands so much behind and cannot compete anylonger. Missed opportunity.
