This week when euro-region leaders visit Athens, they are expected to extend Greece’s fiscal adjustment program. This has boosted demand for the region’s assets and as a result – the euro rose for a second day against the dollar.

Also, the single currency climbed to the strongest in six weeks against the yen as Spain prepared to sell bills Tuesday.

Similarly, Australia’s dollar climbed the most in two weeks right after the central bank said it saw domestic growth overshadowing a “fragile” global outlook.

Meanwhile, the dollar fell against most of its major counterparts before a Wednesday report forecast to show U.S. home sales are improving. This means the demand for the safety of the greenback might me dropping.

“The market focus is on the meetings that are happening in and around Greece and the key question is whether or not they allow an extension to the fiscal adjustment program,” says Geoff Kendrick, head of European currency strategy at Nomura International Plc.

The euro rose 0.6 percent to $1.2415. The single currency advanced 0.5 percent to 98.58 yen.

Meanwhile, the dollar dropped 0.1 percent to 79.39 yen, reports Bloomberg.
