Food Union acquires Romanian ice cream producer

Baltic news, News from Latvia, BNN.LV, BNN-NEWS.COM, BNN-NEWS.RULatvian milk processing company and ice cream producer Food Union has signed an agreement for the acquisition of Romania’s second largest ice cream producer Alpin57Lux. This will allow the company to expand its presence in the Central-Eastern Europe.

With this deal, Food Union will add Europe’s Central-Eastern countries to the list of production regions in addition to the Baltic region, Nordic countries, CIS and the Far East. At the moment, Food Union includes seven companies – Rīgas piena kombināts, Rīgas Piensaimnieks and Valmieras piens in Latvia, Premia in Estonia, Premier Is in Denmark, Isbjørn Is in Norway and Alpin57Lux in Romania, as reported by the company.

Alpin57Lux in a Romanian family-owned ice cream producer with 100% Romanian capital. The production plant stands on a new production platform with modern machinery and warehouse premises, next generation ice cream production lines that employ internal safety measures during food production, notes the Latvian producer.

«We had begun from zero in 1993. The only investment we had at the time was our family’s confidence and support. Nowadays we produce more than 80 tons of ice cream every day. We own confectioneries department with Romcherie brand and Maestro Alpin frozen vegetables. The productivity of more than 450 employees of Alpin57Lux was acknowledged by the strategic investor whose development project aligned well with our own vision. I will remain the company’s manager. We expect to achieve a greater degree of development in comparison what we would achieve were we to remain independent. Products we have created with care and love have earned support from Food Union,» – comments Alpin57Lux CEO and minority shareholder Joan Istrate.

Alpin57Lux focuses on ice cream production. The company has a portfolio with more than 100 different products. The company also produces confectioneries and bread products. Alpin57Lux has its own logistical network with more than 250 transports and national level sales through distribution canals and other distributors. Last year, the company’s turnover was approximately EUR 18 million.
