French presidential candidates exchange insults during debate

Nicolas Sarkozy and Francois Hollande
The only television debate took place in France between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his challenger Francois Hollande. During the debate they not only promised various things and expressed opinions, but also exchanged expressive insults, BBC reported.
The President called Hollande a “little slanderer”, while his rival said Sarkozy shirked responsibility.
Sarkozy defended his record and said he had kept France out of recession. But Hollande said France was going through a “serious crisis” and was struggling with slow growth.
The run-off vote takes place on Sunday, May 6.
Analysts say it was a long, bad-tempered debate that left the impression that neither candidate liked each other.
During the discussion there were plenty of angry exchanges, with both candidates accusing each other of lying.

Latvia's producer prices up by 1.4%
