Hillary Clinton’s 100th official visit will be to Latvia

U.S. Secretary of State Clinton
On Thursday, June 28, Latvia will be visited by the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She plans to meet with some Latvian top officials to discuss a number of questions, including the cooperation of the two countries in NATO activities and priorities, as well as question related to Latvia’s overcoming of the economic crisis.
During her visit, as part of the informal forum, the US Secretary of State will meet with teenagers and leaders of non-political organizations from across Latvia, the US embassy in Latvia reports.
Clinton will participate in the honorary re-naming of a street, in honour of the former Deputy of the State Secretary Summer Welles.
BNN previously reported that Clinton will celebrate an impromptu jubilee on June 28 – a 100th official visit to a foreign country since taking the office. And Latvia is the hundredth country she plans to visit.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will travel to Finland, Latvia, and Russia from June 27-June 30, as the US Department of State informs.
Clinton will be the first US Secretary of State in the history of USA who managed to carry out 100 official visits to foreign countries. The previous record (96) belongs to Madeleine Albright. However, a complete record runner in terms of the covered distance is the previous US Secretary of State – Condoleezza Rice. During her term, she covered a distance of 1 701 474 km, while going on official visits to foreign countries, while Clinton has only 1 287 475 km, USA Today writes.
Condoleezza Rice spent 93.87 days in total in an airplane. Clinton – 72.3 days, and is getting close to Rice’s record.
When talking about her many visits, Clinton said: «In my opinion, there is no choice. Even though we are now living in the so called virtual reality era, and I can easily host a virtual conference with any person in any part of the world, have my image broadcasted with a satellite, so that it looks as if I am actually there, nothing can replace actual physical presence.»
