The exploitation of the President’s Boeing-747 costs U.S. National Air forces 179 750 USD per hour. This amount was stated in the new Presidential travels: politics and expenses report, compiled by the Research Service of the U.S. Congress.

According to the report, the head of the state has two specially equipped Boeing-747s at his disposal. The Presidents periodically uses airplanes of other models as well, respectively, any aircraft with him on board is immediately named Air Force – 1, ITAR-TASS writes.

The Vice-President of the United States of America flies mainly with a Boeing-757, and the first lady – with a Boeing-737. Exploitation and maintenance costs of these machines are not listed in the report.

Authors of the document explain that military airplanes are used to ensure the safety of the travels of high ranking officials of the country. Not all of their travels are official though. Some of them – including pre-election goals – are classified as «political». In these cases, treasury expenses are to be compensated. Written directives on this issue were compiled in 1982, during Ronald Reagan’s Presidency, and as far as anyone is aware, they are still being used.

This only relates to flight inside the country. All international trips of the leaders of the United States of America are automatically considered official.
