The first Apple iPhone 4 models, which are sold without a telecommunications operator involvement, could be available in Latvia starting from Monday, September 13, said the marketing manager of internet shop Xnet.lv Apple product section Āboluveikals.lv, Gatis Skuditis (Gatis Šķudītis).

The mobile phones have been ordered from Apple European branch that offers a number of phones (without joining an operator) in addition to the supply for operators that sell iPhone 4 at a reduced, subsidised price, reports the business portal Nozare.lv.

On the online shop website (www.aboluveikals.lv) the price for iPhone 4 with 16 GB internal memory is 629 lats, but with 32 GB memory – 719 lats.

Skuditis said that, despite the price, the attracted interest is «huge». «We have been asked about it for a long time, » said the marketing manager.

In an interview with Nozare.lv the press secretary of Latvijas Mobilais telefons (LMT) Elina Lidere (Elīna Lidere) stressed that «LMT is the only official iPhone seller in Latvia» but the newest iPhone 4 will be available «soon».

However, Lidere could not specify when LMT will start the iPhone 4 trade. It is rumoured within the industry circles that it could even happen in late September.

The new iPhone 4 differs from earlier models with minor changes in the design and with a range of updates in its functionality, including a higher resolution Retina Display screen, and the option to record high-definition (HD) video and have video calls in Facetime.

When asked about the problem described in foreign portals with the iPhone signal quality, which occurs by touching or holding the phone in a certain way, Skuditis replied that tests have been carried out, but no problems have been detected with the available samples in Latvia.

However, Apple has offered a free phone case, which distinguishes the touch of a hand from the phone itself enough to avoid the weakening of the signal, to all the customers who claim that their iPhone 4 model has this defect.

It’s great news if we get iP4 by end of september. This means I’m gonna get my filthy hands on one soon! Rumor has it that those might even some sort of updated iP4s which don’t have that infamous “You’r holding it wrong” issue. Whatever. I seriously want to upgrade from my dying iP3G.
