LDz transported cargoes equal to 82.4% of last year’s volume in 2016

Baltic news, News from Latvia, BNN.LV, BNN-NEWS.COM, BNN-NEWS.RUVolume of cargoes transported using Latvian railway’s infrastructure continued to grow in October. The company transported 4.16 million tons of cargoes or 2.8% more in comparison with last year’s October.

Compared with October 2015, land transit volumes have grown 113.6% (220 thousand) and volume of imported cargoes has grown by 6.1%. Export cargoes, on the other hand, have experienced a decline.

Looking at each cargo group separately, LDz transported 9% more stone coal, 10.6% more chemical cargoes and 32.5% more mineral fertilizer cargoes. LDz transported 8.5% less oil products in comparison with October 2015.

In total, 38.4 million tons of cargoes were carried by rail in the first ten months of 2016. This is equal to 82.4% of last year’s carried volume, as BNN was informed by LDz.

Inland transports of cargoes accounted for 1.25 million tons, which is equal to 92% of the transported volume of cargoes in the first ten months of 2015. Export transports accounted for two million tons (83.3% of last year’s volume). Import transports accounted for 33.7 million tons (83.7% of last year’s volume).

14.25 million tons of oil products were transported by rail this year, which is equal to 76.9% of last year’s volume. The second most important group of cargoes transported this year – stone coal – was carried in the amount of 11.9 million tons, which is equal to 74.5% of last year’s volume.

The volume of sugar, grains and flour products transported by rail remained almost unchanged – 108,000 and 1.4 million tons (99.1% and 99.2% of last year’s volume).

LDz has also transported 691,000 tons of ore this year. The volume of this group of cargoes has increased 230 times in comparison with last year. Other types of cargoes accounted for 2.77 million tons, which is 4.8% less in comparison with 2015.
