Aivars Lembergs intends to participate in upcoming municipal elections in Ventspils as a mayoral candidate from his party – For Latvia and Ventspils.
«The mayor is elected by deputies, seeing as though those are not direct elections. But there is no doubt that in the event of a positive outcome of elections, our party will not change its opinion about its candidate,» Lembergs said, confirming that the party has named him its candidate. «Yes, I can confirm that. Of course, what is important is the outcome of elections. We’ve put the exam before voters.»
When asked how many seats in the city council he predicts for his party, Lembergs said he does not make such predictions: «Like every year, we will present voters with reports on different developments that have taken place in Ventspils under the current municipal power in the past four years. This is how voters will make their decisions. We know full well what we can and cannot promise. We can only promise what we can do. Our approach is such – if we are elected, we have to keep our promises. We cannot afford to toss promises left and right,» Lembergs said.
BNN had previously reported that Artuss Kaimins’ political party Kam Pieder Valsts LV has decided to participate in municipal elections in Ventspils.
With a slogan «Topple Lembergs!», KPV LV leader Artuss Kaimins turns to all residents of Ventspils. «After elections, Ventspils will be able to wake up from the nightmare and fears. Such a possibility exists,» as noted by members of KPV LV.
Artuss Kaimins and other members of his party have spoken with many residents of Ventspils who support KPV LV but fear openly joining it, the party’s representatives say, adding: «Lembergs has intimidates people. Every person associated with municipal administration has friends and family members working alongside them. People know – as soon as someone appears in public, repressions will soon follow.»
«Power that is based on psychological terror and repressions has to end in Ventspils!» with a strong slogan, Kaimins invites residents to join his party.
For Latvia and Ventspils plans to submit its candidate list on Thursday, 20 April. It will be a full list with 16 candidates. Among the party’s chosen candidates are Janis Vitolins, Guntis Blumbergs, Didzis Osenieks, Ilze Bunke, Aigo Gutmanis, Dainis Gilis and Andris Grigalis.
On Monday, 3 April, the agreement was signed by the regional leader of Unity in Ventspils Girts Valdis Kristovskis, regional leader of Latvian Association of Regions Raimonds Kalnins and regional leader of the National Alliance Bruno Jursevics.
Ventspils is a city of unused opportunities, Kristovskis said. «Ventspils has had access to an enormous resource pool, but what has been achieved with those resources over the years? If a little more than 20 companies with 1,400 jobs have opened up in the past 30 years, there is nothing to be proud of, especially if we look at the number of businesses that have closed down. How many businessmen are truly happy there and how many are afraid to even go there?» said the mayoral candidate.
