In his application to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Aleksejs Ovods blatantly lies, when complaining about the State Police’s delay to launch a probe into embezzlement in Latvijas Naftas tranzits (LNT), says Aivars Gobins, representative of the Swiss attorney Rudolf Meroni.

Having received Ovods’ application, the State Police Jurmala department initiated criminal proceedings in relation to LNT on February 2, 2012. The application is said to be based on completely falsified and untrue facts about Ventbunkers and LNT Supervisory Councils, as well as the legitimately appointed LNT Management Board.

“So it is only logical and natural that the State Police is not complying with the interests of Ovods and his clients – Ventspils millionaire Olegs Stepanovs and Olafs Berkis,” says Gobins.

Neither Ventbunkers, nor LNT Management Board has ever used schemes practiced by Ventspils Mayor Aivars Lembergs, his former opponent Berkis and others. Their schemes led to a suspicion of money laundering, oil transit profit being directed to offshore companies and tax avoidance. All payments made since January 2010 within the competence of Management Boards appointed by Ventbunkers and LNT Supervisory Councils (run by Meroni) fully comply with the Latvian tax legislation, according to Gobins.
