Latvian Association of Regions, National Alliance, For Latvia’s Development and Unity will start at municipal elections in Ventspils under a single candidate list, said the leader of this unified list Girts Valdis Kristovskis in an interview to Latvijas Avīze.
The list of candidates includes many well-known people, including the head of NA’s Ventspils faction Bruno Jursevics, Unity’s Venspils faction leader Dace Korna and her deputy Ugis Goldmanis. Ojars Grinbergs, an opponent of Aivars Lembergs, is also among the candidates on this list.
The list also includes Edgars Ceporjus, current and former board member in companies like VB Mediju Grupa, Kurzemes ragio and other companies; former rector of Ventspils University College Gita Revalde, Baltic Association – Transport and Logistics president Inga Antane, as well as Eduards Ratnieks, Raimonds Kalnins, Aivis Landmanis and others.
Kristovskis said: «We will work as a team that believes in values and maintains ideals. We are all professionals with a lot of experience working in different fields.»
The politician is critical of the work performed by the current mayor of Ventspils. He says that Ventspils has been managed in the past thirty years by a one-man-orchestra. «Under such leadership, this and that has been achieved. But achievements came at a high cost. The city has been under management of a person whose behaviour has nothing in common with a civilized understanding of market economy and business management. In reality, we are talking about abuse of political influence, unseen take-over of the city’s infrastructure and unreasonable use of assets for personal gain,» Kristovskis comments.
Girts Valdis Kristovskis has confirmed his readiness to participate in municipal elections in Ventspils as one of the candidates. Elections are planned to take place on 3 June 2017.
Talks are currently being held in regards to the formation of the list of candidates. It is possible that this list will include multiple opposition parties of Ventspils.
As mentioned in the report, the main advantage of this list of candidates is a team of patriotic and motivated specialists from the state, municipality, business and education fields and who care about the interests of Ventspils residents. To achieve this goal, experts have begun assessing priority directions and preparing the action plan, so that there is something to discuss with residents and listen to their opinions.
«We will offer Ventspils residents development, in which residents of the city are considered the main value. Management, humanism, justice, fair competition and civilized business culture should be put in the foundation of changes! Ventspils should retain its transit and logistics traditions. The city has to focus on developing its port and other industries. Anyone who creates jobs will be welcomed in Ventspils as a friend. I am confident that working in such a way will convince many Ventspils residents living and working abroad to return home,» Kristovskis said.
He admits that it was not a difficult decision for him to make. He says he has been thinking about processes that are taking place in Ventspils for more than 25 years.
