Norwegian «oilmen» conclude their strike

The Norwegian government managed to intervene in the fight between oil industry employers and workers just mere minutes before the planned lockout. Doing so, the government managed to prevent concerns about the shutdown of the Norwegian oil market and the reduction of European oil supplies from taking over the market.
In accordance with the Norwegian legislation, the government has the authority to force workers that are on strike to come back to work, which the government decided to do. It should be noted that the Norwegian government acted this way before as well: when trying to protect the industry that is vital for the country’s economy.
As the Norwegian Minister of Labour Hanne Bjurstrom said, the choice was not a simple one. Nonetheless, it was impossible to act in any other way.
As previously reported, three largest Norwegian industry trade unions have been on strike since June 24. They demanded rights for early retirement at the age of 62, at the same time retaining the rights to receive the full pension amount.
