It is not important how many millions are spent on deputy quotas. What is more important, on the other hand, is who received the millions Saeima deputies rushed to divide, believes publicist Vilis Seleckis.
«I would like to emphasize that there was no restraint in the division process for quotas. It was as though a fun pastime. Giving to best friends and giving to those who will give me something back. This is why a closer look at division of quotas reveals political sympathies of different deputies and the powers they serve,» – Seleckis wrote for Delfi.
«Who will receive the largest amount of money? Ventspils! More than EUR 4 million of the total amount of EUR 20 million have been allocated for Ventspils. All other regions, cities and parishes have been given much less than that even though music schools and sport bases elsewhere in the country are in far greater need of money.
It is well-known that the port city’s economic potential is incomparably higher than that of other cities and it is able to resolve problems in education, sports and culture much better than other municipalities. But once deputies of ruling parties got their hands on loose money, they decided to provide Ventspils the most money,» – the publicist continues.
«It is no surprise green farmers decided to be extra generous towards Ventspils. This party has deputies and ministers that represent Ventspils. It is only natural for them to think of their city the most. In addition, the green farmers have never tried to hide the fact that their ‘Master’ resides there. This is why their desire to give Ventspils money is only logical, if not for the mistake that their party’s name and their rhetoric suggest they are a party of farmers. By putting Ventspils ahead of poorer cities, green farmers once again demonstrated how misleading their ideology truly is. They have clearly shown everyone that they don’t care about rural regions – the horrible roads, professional schools that still use Belarusians for training, and medical centres in far-away regions. They only aim to take care of cities, and only because there are more voters there,» – adds Seleckis.
«Even deputies from the National Alliance have shown interest in serving Ventspils. […] Yes, why not give some to our pals that have a similar ideology to us so that they help us out in the next elections? What can we conclude from this? Only that the fatherland for them expands no further than Ventspils.
[…] The biggest surprise is that even Unity is involved in the generous donations to Ventspils. It turned out they had not only voted in favour of allocation of millions to the “future with tomorrow”, but they had also written relevant proposals, competing with greens and nationalists in wastefulness. This was done by the party that speaks of liberalism, justice and European values. This is the he party that has claimed since its birth that its very purpose is to limit the power and money of oligarchs. As it turned out, however, Unity and all other coalition parties serve the same Master,» – Seleckis concluded.
