More the one third of parents (35%) would choose a carrier of a businessman in the future. Among the most popular responses there are such professions as: a doctor (29%), banker or financial expert (23%) and architect (21%).

For five years in a row, Swedbank performs this survey, interviewing current and future parents about the preferred profession of their children. Survey authors note, that after one year of absence, the profession of a lawyer (27%) has returned to the TOP 5 most popular professions.

Compared to last year’s results, some professions partially lost their popularity: architect (from 33% last year, to 21% this year), designer (from 23% last year, to 17% this year), journalist or PR specialist (from 13% last year, to 7% this year), as well as the profession of a sportsman (18 last year, to 13% this year). The most sought for profession – businessman – only suffered a popularity drop of 1% (from 36% last year, to 35% this year), while the doctor’s profession grew by 1% (from 28% last year, to 29% this year).

Rural residents noted almost two times more often than Riga resident that they would like their children to become artists (16% of rural residents, and 9% of Riga residents), while Riga residents noted twice as much that they would like their child to become a pilot (12% Riga residents, 6% rural residents).

Respondents with the highest income more often want to see their children as businessmen or architects (50% and 44% of people with monthly income over 600 LVL). On the other hand, residents with monthly income up to 150 LVL more often want to see their children as sportsmen (22%), hairdressers and beauty professionals (10%).
