With a score of 74:75 (21:14, 18:24, 23:22, 12:15) Latvia’s basketball team lost to Ukraine on Wednesday, 9 September. It is worth mentioning that this is the first achievement for Ukraine in the European Basketball Championship.
Latvia could have secured itself a place in play-offs. All that was necessary for this was a victory against Ukraine. Lithuania, on the other hand, had to win against Estonia yesterday.
Latvia’s most productive players were Dairis Bertans, who earned his team 17 points, and Kaspars Berzins, who earned 13 points. The captain of the team, Janis Blums, earned his team 12 points.
Ukraine’s team had Kiril Fesenko, who earned 21 points for his team and Lipoviy, who earned 15 points.
In the first game (against Belgium) Latvia’s basketball team won with a score of 18:67. One day later, Latvia lost to Lithuania with a score 49:68. Latvia then briefly came back on the victory track in the game against Czech Republic, which was won with a score of 72:65.
Ukraine, on the other hand, experienced three defeats in this year’s tournament: a defeat against Lithuania with a score of 68:69; defeat against Czech Republic (64:78) and a defeat against Estonia with a score of 71:79.
Czech Republic won against Belgium in this Wednesday’s first match with a score of 66:64. This secured the Czech team a place in play-offs. The duel between Lithuania and Estonia will begin at 21:30.
Czech Republic has earned three victories in D subgroup; Lithuania has earned two victories in three matches. Belgium and Latvian each have two victories in two matches. Estonia has one victory in three matches and Ukraine has only one victory in four matches.
