Photo radars recorded almost 3 000 violations in a matter of days
23 stationary photo radars recorded 2 846 speed violations in less than seven days, State police press representative Lita Juberte revealed.
Juberte noted that «all these violations are due for processing, in the end of which justified violations by operative vehicles and violations by vehicles with foreign car registration numbers will be deducted from the total number, also the overall quality of the registered cases and the compliance with other necessary requirements will be evaluated.»
23 stationary photo radars were deployed in Riga and around it on May 24. The supply-exploitation act for these photo radars was signed on this day. The State police checked the stationary units, constructed by Vitronic Baltica and partners Company, in terms of equipment, radar functionality and service quality – all was deemed acceptable. Before the deployment of the photo radars, a special road sign saying «Photo radars» was crafted in accordance with state requirements.
The Chief of State police Ints Kuzis sent a second warning to the private partner, which is continuing the contract termination procedure, which was started in January. It provides that in two months’ time the private partner needs to compensate for the losses and fulfill the legal obligations.
New stationary Photo radars are located in: Babite region, the A10 motorway (Riga-Ventspils) 16th km, Babites region, the A10 motorway (Riga-Ventspils) 16th km, Olaine region, the A8 motorway (Riga-Jelgava-Lithuanian border [Meitene]) 14th km, Marupe region, motorway A5 (Salaspils-Babite) 30th km, Olaine region, the A8 motorway (Riga-Jelgava-Lithuanian border [Meitene]) 20.5th km Jaunolaine, opposite the house «Nāburdziņi» Kekava region, road P 89 (Kekava-Skaistkalne) 4th km.
Two photo radars are located on Salu Bridge, Riga, two more on the Vanšu Bridge and South Bridge. Photo radars are also located on Krasta Street 101 on Zemitana Bridge, on Vairoga Street Bridge and on Brivibas Avenue 363.
Drivers can also spot photo radars in Adazi, motorway A1 (Riga-(Blatezers)-Estonian border [Ainazi]), in Baltezers near the cemetery, in Garciems (Carnikava Province) near the Silenieki home, in Sejas Province, motorway A3 (Incukalns-Valmiera-Estonian border) 4th km, near the Murjanu sports gymnasium, in Kocenu Province (Vaidava Parish), motorway A3 (Incukalns-Valmiera-Estonian border [Valka]) 58.9th km, Brocenu Province (Blidene Parish), motorway A9 (Riga-Liepaja) 85th km, Marupe Province, motorway P132 (Riga-marupe) 6.4th km, and in Olaine Province, motorway A8 (Riga-Jelgava-Lithuanian border [Meitene]) 28th km.
According to the contract, Vitronic Baltica and partners Company is obligated to supply 160 stationary photo radars, 100 of which are equipped with measuring instruments and 60 – spare empty frames, as well as ensure the operation of 30 mobile devices.
