Baltic news, News from Latvia, BNN.LV, BNN-NEWS.COM, BNN-NEWS.RULatvian Physicians’ Association has requested that Dr. Viesturs Krumins, who operated on the now former Healthcare Minister of Latvia Guntis Benevics, to be reinstated in his post at Latvian Oncology Centre.

As mentioned by the head of LPA Peteris Apinis at the 13 June conference, Krumins is an excellent doctor and it is sad that he is the only person to be found guilty in the whole scandal.

The association has decided to turn to Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis and acting Healthcare Minister Uldis Augulis with a request to reinstate Krumins in his post at Latvian Oncology Centre.

Krumins was dismissed from his post last Friday.

Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital has received Krumins’ resignation, in which the doctor admits performing surgical manipulations on a patient who had not filled in the necessary documents in time. Krumins intended to complete all paperwork after finishing the patient’s treatment.

After receiving Krumins’ resignation, Anita Slokenberga, head of the hospital’s board, called an extraordinary meeting of the board. Because the information mentioned by Krumins in his submitted document details a breach of rules that govern the registration and payment for services, the board decided to launch an investigation to find out what happened. Krumins was dismissed for the duration of this investigation.

LPA has also asked Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis to assess the behavior of Healthcare Ministry’s state secretary Solvita Zvidrina in relation to the expression of lack of trust to Anita Slokenberga and board member Viesturs Boks, said Apinis.

He said that LPA has decided to ask the government to view Zvidrina’s call to dismiss the management board of Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital in a time when the minister has committed all kinds of offences. He added that LPA has requested only an assessment of Zvidrina’s behaviour. He, on the other hand, was prepared to request her dismissal.

Last Friday, at the press-conference with the now former Healthcare Minister of Latvia, Zvidrina announced that the management board of RECUH has lost the government’s trust. It was announced after the conference that members of the hospital’s board will remain in their posts.
