-Meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers Committee. During this meeting, officials will discuss the progress of realization of the main directions of the state family policy in 2011-2017 and 2016-2017.

-Meeting of the Saeima Praesidium.

-Meeting of the parliamentary faction of Latvian Regional Alliance.

-Prime Minsiter Laimdota Straujuma hosts a meeting of the Coalition Parties Council.

Tuesday, 26 January:

-Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma takes part in an extraordinary meeting of the Saeima. During this meeting, members of the parliament will hold debates about the annual report of Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics and plans for the government’s foreign policy and EU matters.

-Meetings of standing Saeima committee:

Saeima Legal Affairs Committee to decide whether or not to permit the launch of a criminal process against Judge Ineta Berzina of Riga Regional Court;

Saeima Zolitude Tragedy Investigation Committee reviews the proposals added the 15th section of the conclusion On the requirement for adoption of legislative regulations of lobbying activities and measures for their realization.

-Meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Wednesday, 27 January:

-Meetings of standing Saeima committees:

National Economy Committee prepares amendments to the Energy Law in the third reading;

European Affairs Committee discusses Latvia’s initial position in regards to European Commission’s report regarding the single digital market strategy for Europe;

Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee reviews matters in the field of protection of children’s rights and activities of orphan courts;

Legal Affairs Committee discusses matters of alienation of properties for the construction of the Eastern Highway on Ieriku Street – Vietalvas Street segment;

Budget-Finance Committee reviews amendments to the Taxes and Duties Law and Excise Tax Law;

Public Administration and Local Government Committee discusses the matter of prevention of conflicts of interests in activities of officials;

Defence, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee reviews the report of Foreign Ministry on the realization of the new higher education model;

Mandate, Ethics and Submissions Committee reviews applications received by Saeima’s Public Relations Bureau in November 2015;

Latvia’s population declined by 4,636 this year

In the first nine months of 2016, Latvia’s population decreased by 4,636 persons. This is because the number of deaths exceeded the number of births. In the corresponding period of 2015, population decline constituted 4,751 persons.

Russia applies discount on transit from Belarus
