Prime Minister and ministers to take part in the Big Cleanup

During the Big Cleanup on Friday, April 20, and Saturday, April 21 the Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis and most part of ministers are going to do cleaning works in Riga and its outskirts.
On Saturday at 12 o’clock Dombrovskis together with Unity members will clean the Plavnieki forest, according to the State Chancellery.
The Welfare Ministry’s employees will do the cleanup already on Friday, April 20, in the social care centre Ezerkrasti, while the Education and Science Minister Roberts Kilis together with the Ministry’s employees will clean the territory of the Strazdumuiza boarding-school.
The Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis and the Ministry’s employees, as well as the State Fire and Rescue Service on Friday, April 20, at 16:30 o’clock will clean the territory where the new SFRS training polygon is planned to be built.
Economy Minister Daniels Pavluts and the Ministry’s employees will clean the territory in Kengarags, near the Daugava river where the Green city project is planned to be realized.
Agriculture Minister Laimdota Straujuma this year will clean the Dole Island, while Defence Minister Artis Pabriks is planning to participate in cleanup of Christmas Battles memorial site near Lestene, as well as in some other commemorative sites.
Healthcare Minister Ingrida Circene together with the Ministry’s employees will clean the territory of the Children Clinical University Hospital. Meanwhile, the Environmental Protection and Regional Development Minister Edmunds Sprudzs will do the cleanup of the Gauja National Park territory in Sigulda. Justice Minister will help to do the cleaning of the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum.
This is already the fifth year of the Big Cleanup. Its idea is based on a voluntary participation in cleanup of the environment, and everyone, who cares about sustainable development and opportunity to live in a clean and unpolluted place, is welcomed to take part in it.

Tourists from Belarus stay the longest at Latvian hotels
The number of visitors in hotels and other accommodation establishments in Q1 of this year comprised 301.3 thousand people. That is 5.9% more than in Q1 of 2012.Of which 34.3% were residents of Latvia and 65.7% – foreign tourists. Previously share of visitors was similar.
