The coming of 2017 was celebrated on 11 November Waterfront in Riga by 80,000 residents and guests to the capital. Several thousand people celebrated the coming of the New Year in Old Riga as well, as reported by Riga City Council.
It has been a tradition in Riga – to celebrate the coming of the New Year on 11 November Waterfront in Riga. A new record was established during this year’s celebration – 80,000 people. Among those people were also many youngsters who came to Riga for Taizé days.
Before midnight, participants of the celebration watched the speech of Mayor of Riga Nil Ushakov, listen to performances by Otra puse band and soloist Antra Stafecka, Colt band and special guests Aija Andreyeva and Alex. From the waterfront residents and guests watched the fireworks prepared by International Fireworks Design. The musical accompaniment was prepared by Zigmars Liepins. Post-midnight celebrations continued with Big AI& The Jokers band, as reported by representatives of Riga City Council.
Festive mood was present all throughout the city. Tourists were seen enjoying all kinds of festive attractions set up around the city’s centre.
