On January 17, Reform Party (RP) submitted the name of its candidate for the post of Mayor of Riga – Inga Antane.

During the Thursday’s Riga department meeting, RP also voiced the names of the second and third candidates on the list. Economy Ministry’s parliamentary secretary Vilnis Kirsis will start with number two and Economy Minister’s advisor Ilona Platonova with number three, as reported by RP.

“Riga is the heart of Latvia and its economic engine. Riga is the largest municipality; it has larger opportunities and even larger problems. I and my team – we are patriots of Riga. We love our city and know how to make it even better,” – said Antane.

“Our children go to Riga schools, we use tramways and rest in Riga’s parks. Riga has enormous potential – we will develop it and use all of the capital’s opportunities, preserving all that is good, all that is created here,” – said the candidate.

RP’s priorities in Riga include a responsible and transparent management of the city, more active attraction of European funding, transparent and understandable budget planning and division of executive power from legislature. It is also planned to develop interest education and make sports infrastructure more accessible. The first priority in the communal field is heating of residential homes. Road repairs and city lighting are also among the party’s top priorities.

RP’s advantage is the ability to create a productive dialogue with the government, end the long confrontation between Riga and the state and resolve questions that are important to Riga residents. This includes developing a law for the capital, make municipal services convenient and accessible, and achieve the development of ports toward a larger added value of its work, explains the party.

It is planned to perform a more rapid tourism development in cooperation with private and state partners. The party also promises to develop a long-term Riga development plan, more convenient public transport routes, less traffic jams and new management of problematic areas.

According to the party, it is necessary to quickly resolve the air pollution problem, develop cooperation with Riga Free port in questions of ecology and create a network of bicycle roads that would connect all micro districts of the capital.
