Riga 2014: theatre programme 'forte forte' and premiere of 'More than life'

Baltic news, News from Latvia, BNN.LV, BNN-NEWS.COM, BNN-NEWS.RUAs part of Riga 2014 cultural capital programme, there will be the first contemporary theatre programme ‘forte forte’ week will span January 25 – February 1.

This programme will commence with a week dedicated to Latvian stage director Alvis Hermanis. Residents are invited to come to plays ‘Vēlie kaimiņi’ (Late neighbours) and ‘Tēvi’ (Fathers). There will also be a premiere of the documentary film ‘Vairāk nekā dzīve’ (More than life).

The play Late neighbours will be shown at Riga Film studio at 19:00 p.m. January 25 and 18:00 p.m. January 26. The play ‘Fathers’ will be held at Riga Film studio at 19:00 p.m. January 30 – February 1.

All interested in Hermanis’ opinion about the European contemporary theatre and his work method, residents are invited to participate in discussions about Hermanis’ theatre in the Small Hall of the New Riga Theatre January 31 and February 1. Theatre festival organizers, researchers, critics, writers, actors and stage directors from different European countries will participate in these discussions. Entry is free of charge. All interested should register in advance by e-mail contact@theatre.lv.

Gints Grube will have a discussion with Alvis Hermanis at 10:00 a.m. February 1. A live stream of this discussion will be available www.riga2014.org.

Premiere of the film ‘More than life’ will take place at Splendid Palace film theatre. Tickets for this film are now available for purchase at Splendid Palace, Biļešu serviss offices and on the internet.

European Capital of Culture program includes the contemporary theatre program ‘forte forte’, which features a series of performances by leading European stage director all year-round. Forte forte unites a wide range of topics centered on the individual and the power of normal and abnormal personality and mass, as well the relationship between within the context of major historical events and everyday life.

The second week of forte forte is planned for March 15 – 23. It will be dedicated to Belgian director Jan Lauwers and ‘Needcompany’. March 19 – 20 will feature ‘Izabellas istaba’ (Isabella’s room) play.

The European Culture Capital programme is organized by the Riga 2014 Foundation in full cooperation with state, municipal and non-government organizations and creative associations. The programme is financed by Riga City Council, Culture Ministry and European Commission. Lattelecom provides technological support.
