Riga Zoo visitors are cheered by penguins
(No Ratings Yet)Starting from August 9, Riga Zoo visitors can have a look at 17 Gentoo penguins that spend their three-week quarantine here in Riga, before they are shipped to China.
Riga Zoo was chosen as the most appropriate quarantine place because Latvia is one of few European countries which did not register any cases of bird flu in the last ten years. In order to comply with the quarantine’s conditions, one of the zoo’s facilities was carefully disinfected. The facility was also rebuilt to meet the requirement for short-term housing of penguins, ensuring a constant +8 to +10 C temperature in the facility.
