Russian Foreign Minister slams EU

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
The European Union should be ashamed of the problem of Russian speakers’ non-citizenship in Latvia and Estonia, says Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
He was speaking during an annual meeting with the students and teachers of Moscow International Relations University.
“The retention of the institution of non-citizenship is inadmissible,” he added.
According to Lavrov, there are EU countries which try to defend Latvia and Estonia, reports Interfax.
“Therefore, they can imperturbably keep ignoring appeals by the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the UN to slash the number of non-citizens and abolish that shameful institution.”
Foreign Minister insists on the need to automatically grant citizenship rights to children who were born into the families of non-citizens.
The same applies to people of advanced age who find it difficult to learn a foreign language, he stresses.

And by the way, foreign language here is Russian, not Latvian.
Maybe you and all the others could just stop breaking our balls with this useless rhetoric. I’m a non citizen too and I can assure you and everybody else that my condition does not entail any discrimination at all.
The only minus is that I can’t play politics here, because of language difficulties. But if I would consider that important, I would just improve my Latvian and voila’….. problem resolved! It’s my choice. I don’t harass the rest of the world with endless, pathetic whining.

I am from USA and I just cant believe that lativa descrimates against russian speakers, Its disgusting, surely this is a clever way to keep people in latvia, who work for peanuts and yet still pay taxes…..slave trade instantly springs to ones mind. Get a grip you latvian politicians I think its time you looked after your own people, language is simply just how one talks, actions speak louder. Grant these non latvian citizens their just rights and join the 21st century.
