On Tuesday, the South Korean Samsung Electronics Co. announced that it plans to launch a significantly increased version of the Galaxy Note smartphone. By doing so, the company hopes to join the competition on the multi-billion dollar market for portable devices.
The Galaxy Note 10.1, which was released on the markets in Germany and the United Arab Emirates, is nearly two times wider than the previous model, and almost as large as a Tablet PC.
Samsung notes that the new device will hit the shelves in USA on August 15, and somewhere around next week, it will be released in Britain and South Korea.
Galaxy Note 10.1 is fitted with Android OS, by Google, and its touchscreen size is 10.1-inch (25.6 cm), compared to the previous model’s 5.3-inch screen.
Like its predecessor, the new model is fitted with an «S pen» pencil to write notes or draw on the screen. The new version also gives its users the ability to divide the screen, to be able to use two applications at the same time.
The new device from Samsung has a quad-core processor that allows its users to run several applications at high speed, unlike the previous version, which had a duo-core processor.
Samsung released the first Galaxy Note in November, 2011. This device was positioned to be a compromise between Galaxy S smartphone and Galaxy Tab Tablet PC.
