Schools to have lessons in finance

Schools will soon have special education courses in finance. Because it is necessary to raise the resident’s understanding in the field of finance, one of the measures to reach this goal provides for some changes within the schools education program, says Chairman of the Finance and Capital Market Commission (FCMC) Kristaps Zakulis.
«Currently, financial services have become an everyday product, and schools need to timely ensure that children know what that is and how to use it. The financial sector requires wide knowledge, so that the young man would be able to make the right decisions in this sector when he is ready,» – Zakulis explained in an interview to Delovoj Telegraf.
He revealed that this education course will be introduced in fifth grade at schools and will be four years long.
Even though the introduction of the program will require three years, there is hope that it will be possible to realize it sooner in cooperation with the Association of Latvian Commercial Banks and the Education and Science Ministry.
