Lately there has been an increase in infection cases involving one of the most dangerous ransom computer viruses – Cerber. Specialists of eScan anti-virus programme warn that this is the most active ransom virus. Its infection spread rating reaches 25.97%.
Another form of distribution of this virus is through malware websites that upload malware packages (Neutrino, Angler and Magnitude) that leave security holes in the system and upload Cerber virus.
Like other ransom viruses, Cerber encrypts files, changes the desktop wallpaper and gives computer users instructions in .html and .txt format. One of the main unique traits of this virus is the audio sound it makes to inform victims about encrypted files.
«Ransom viruses will remain active as long as there are users who do not use precautions when surfing the internet and use unprotected computers. Some viruses find their victims without any problems – hackers only need to send as many SPAM messages as they can or create websites to spread viruses to computers of naïve users looking for pirated software or porn,» – comments eScan anti-virus software distributor Baltimax regional manager Sergei Romanovskis.
