For five days now the former prime minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko, who is now spending her seven year sentence in the Kachanov prison, has been on a hunger strike, her lawyer Sergey Vlasenko reported on Tuesday, April 24.

According to him, Tymoshenko declared a hunger strike on April 20 – the day she was forcefully placed in the Kharkov Central Hospital.

The ex-prime minister claims she has stomach pains, as well as multiple cuts on her arms and legs. «Her arms are covered in bruises and there is a huge hemorrhage on her stomach, which is still visible despite it being four days old», – Vlasenko says.

According to him, Tymoshenko’s hunger strike is «a protest against everything going on in the country, and everything going on with her personally», – Interfax reports.

Tymoshenko’s lawyer says that she cannot even to get up from her bed on her own, and that she was hospitalized by force, accompanied by two prison guards and an administration representative.

BNN previously reported the Court of Kiev declared her guilty in abuse of power, in October, for signing a contract for Russian natural gas supplies to Ukraine in 2009. According to the Court’s decision, she is sentenced to seven years of imprisonment.

Shortly after her imprisonment Tymoshenko’s health began declining. The former prime minister of Ukraine is «seriously sick», and her health condition causes serious concerns – this was the conclusion of the Canadian and German doctors, who performed her medical examination.
