Latvia has a number of advantages and it can well enough challenge traditional movie centres, competing with Prague and Budapest, says senior Vice President of one of the largest movie studios in the world Warner Bros. Kevin Trey.

He is somewhat baffled as to why Latvia has not become one of the film industry’s centres yet. «All you need – is one big movie,»- Trey said.

«I believe Riga can become a worthy competitor to Prague and Budapest. Riga definitely has to work on self-advertising itself more actively,»- Warner Bros. representative said.

While in Latvia, Trey met with all notable local movie industry representatives and was left very impressed in the first day. For example, he highly praised the level of English and the level of education of local professionals. «It is very important for companies from USA and Britain because it means that communication during filming will be easy.»

Trey also noted that Latvia has forest, beach and city landscapes in relatively close proximity to on another. A small territory around Riga has plenty of good sites to offer, which is a good thing for movie shooting – different landscapes can be shot without having to go far away. «Also, your average summer day is 17 hours long. 17 hours of daylight!»

In reality though, the attraction of leading movie giants to Latvia could be slowed by the lack of human resources, specifically – different specialists.
