Even though summer is considered the most appropriate season of the year for jogging outside, don’t be too quick to throw everything away and limit yourself to indoor activities. Autumn is a great time for physical exercises in the open air. Anita Kazemaka, winner of Jurmala Jogging Day 2014, gives five pieces of advice how to motivate yourself for jogging in autumn.
1.Pick a good route:
A new season of the year means a new route! If you mostly kept to a single route during summer, start jogging in new places. Changing a jogging route will make your exercises more exciting. Don’t forget about necessary precautions – grab a friend with you or at least tell someone where you’re going and how long you expect to be gone.
2.Try out workouts with a specific interval:
If you spent all summer jogging at the same pace, try to change your approach a little in the new season of the year. Try out workouts with an interval (1 minute sprint, 2 minutes running at slow pace). It is best to do such workouts no more often than twice a week. This will help you train endurance.
3.Join a jogging group:
If your motivation to go jogging drops lower and lower with autumn, a good idea to maintain it is to join a group. If there is a strict schedule, it is much easier to plan your jogging time. It also provides a good opportunity to meet other people and spend time in good company doing what you like. Jogging in a group provide more opportunities to set ambitious goals. If you usually run 8 km, try entering a group that runs 10 km.
4.Buy yourself a new jogging suit:
It is important to keep in mind that the body heats up when jogging. With that, it is vital to have an appropriate jogging suit for each season. If you plan to job often throughout autumn – don’t be stingy and buy yourself an autumn jogging suit. Your body will only thank you later on!
5.Set yourself a goal:
It is pleasant to do sports on an everyday basis, but it’s a lot easier to jog when you have a clear goal. It can be anything: a competition or a public event. Register for an individual jogging event or call your friends for a little competition. Fresh air, jogging and good company are a combination for great autumn mood.
