Baltic news, News from Latvia, BNN.LV, BNN-NEWS.COM, BNN-NEWS.RUThe Bank of Latvia is prepared to give a job to it bribery-accused governor Ilmārs Rimšēvičs if he comes to work on Wednesday, 27 February. It is likely he will, as confirmed by the central bank’s press-secretary Jānis Silakalns.

Following the favourable ruling from the Court of Justice of the European Union, Rimšēvičs is now able to come back to work at the Bank of Latvia today if he wants to, as journalists were told by Prosecutor General Ēriks Kalnmeiers on Tuesday, 25 February.

When asked if the Bank of Latvia could be prepared to provide Rimšēvičs work if he came to work, the institution’s press-secretary Silakalns said the situation is being evaluated at the moment. «We are in contact with the prosecutor and the governor of the bank. There are a number of unclear subjects we still have to discuss. This includes organization of work,» admits Silakalns.

«According to the information publicly reported by the prosecutor general, the governor of the Bank of Latvia can come to work and start performing his duties at any time. We expect him to use this opportunity,» said the central bank’s press representative. Silakalns has confirmed that the bank is prepared to give Rimšēvičs a job if he comes to work.

He added that this situation does not impact the bank’s operations.

As it is known, the Constitution Protection Bureau had revoked Rimšēvičs’ permit to access official secrets in summer 2018. The security measure against him remains in force. Rimšēvičs is not allowed to leave the country even to take part in meetings of the Council of the European Central Bank, as confirmed by the prosecutor general.

As it is known, earlier this week the Court of Justice of the European Union had overturned the court ruling in accordance with which Rimšēvičs was suspended from his post.
